Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] [12.04] Firefox instead of Chromium?

2011-11-06 Thread Glenn de Groot

Epihany is pretty good since 3.0, very stable.Midori became pretty much an
Elementary browser and looks a little odd now, but Epiphany is well integrated,
it looks like a cute mini Firefox.I believe dependencies are like
Midori.Epiphany used to be not as good as Midori but the GNOME-devs worked real
hard, and it shows. With Epiphany we are 100% sure we have GTK3 and there are
more developers then Midori has.
If you try, don´t install epiphany but epiphany-browser, because epiphany is a
game. :P

Lubuntu 12.04 will be GTK3, and Chromium will still be GTK2. So, to the next
version, Chromium will be heavyweight. I think most of the people agree that
Midori isn't really an option, and I never tested Arora to give my opinion
about this one.
.In a way or another, I believe that the best option for now if Firefox.

[Lubuntu-desktop] Rename LSC?

2011-10-17 Thread Glenn de Groot

Hello everyone,
today I came up with something.I think that if we rename Lubuntu Software
Center to LXDE Software Center or maybe something catchy, other distros and
developers will join.Other LXDE distro´s probably won´t switch to something
Lubuntu branded, which is a shame. We might have Openbox, XFCE and Fluxbox
joining if we come up with a catchy name, Midori isn´t named Gwebkit-browser
for a reason, I guess. :P
Thoughts? :P

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] About GPicView

2011-08-18 Thread Glenn de Groot

Hello,
what about contacting the XFCE people to work on one lightweight image
viewer?Xubuntu discussed about Ristretto because it isn´t very good and they
also looked at replacing it with Gpicview.Maybe if we combine resources we end
up with something better then both Gpicview and Ristretto.

Hi everyone,As the original author and prior maintainer of GPicView, I'd like
to ask for some comments from users and other developers. Since I no longer
have the time to maintain GPicView and it still has many problems. I consider
dropping GPicView in LXDE and replace it with a better one.

Viewnior is a lightweight and feature-rich image viewer which I think is better
than gpicview and it also meets the goals of
LXDE.http://xsisqox.github.com/Viewnior/

It has very good balance between resource usage and feature set. Please give it
some tests and gave me some feedback.I'd suggest replacing GPicView with
Viewnior in LXDE. Any objections?

[Lubuntu-desktop] Application discussion for the Natty cycle

2010-11-06 Thread Glenn de Groot

Hello everyone,
we should make a start on the application discussion, I guess.Just to start, I
have got some ideas.
*Add gnome-alsamixerLubuntu lacks an easy gui way of changing sound levels, I
know of alsamixer but it´s CLI and looks confusing IMHO.We could have both
installed, or CLI lovers could install it after installing Lubuntu. This way I
think everybody is happy.
*Try to get Deadbeef in the repo and add itDeadbeef 0.4.2 came out a few weeks
ago, and I noticed something interesting in the release notes.
merged in DUMB 0.9.3 (mainly to satisfy debian lawyers)
0.4.3 is out now, which is a bugfix release. Can deadbeef be added to the repo´s
now?

nice to hear your problem is solved now. This problem is pretty big for

this (with the fix) on the lubuntu website or on a blog like OMG ubuntu?

I’ve not had this problem, all the other (Linux) OS have been picked up by
GRUB. But, if others are, then the cure should be in the Wiki. Personally,
I don’t regard OMG Ubuntu as a reliable source.

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Change look of lxlauncher

2010-08-16 Thread Glenn de Groot

Hey,
the Lubuntu-netbook interface is this right? :
http://images.maketecheasier.com/2010/05/lubuntu-netbook-desktop.png
my suggestion was to change it to a simplified/tweaked version of this:
http://puppeee.com/files/img/screen2.jpg

because this resembles the Ubuntu Netbook Edtion interface, which could be nice
in two situations:
1. John searches for a lightweight alternative for the Ubuntu Netbook Edition,
which is really slow on his old Eee pc 700.
2. Kate absolutely hates the new Unity netbook interface and wants the old
interface back, but she does want 10.10 because of newer software in the
repositories

If you did not mean this, I am sorry.I did not completely understand your
e-mail :P

[Lubuntu-desktop] Another interesting music player

2010-06-23 Thread Glenn de Groot

Hello,
found another interesting music player called Xnoise. It uses 4.5 mb of ram on
start up while deadbeef uses 11 mb.Deadbeef also uses 10.8 mb while playing an
mp3 (interesting decrease) and xnoise uses 5.7.
It´s a gtk app coded in Python and uses gstreamer so it also plays video´s but
it is aimed as a music player.
website:
http://code.google.com/p/xnoise/

Just thought it´s an interesting little app. ;)
