won't find us.

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] When will we have Lubuntu 10.04 beta 2?

2010-04-11 Thread Jo Gerb
i think because we are not in the ubuntu-family yet we dont have to bring a
beta2 when ubuntu releases one. We should take the time, include some more
programs (such as games) and release it when its ready. Even if the first
lubuntu is not an official *buntu, it should be a great, well tested distro.
In my opinion, we dont have to follow the canonical timetable that strict.

Best regards, Jo.

2010/4/11 PCMan pcman...@gmail.com

Ubuntu beta 2 just came out.
So when will we have Lubuntu 10.04 beta 2?
Before releasing beta 2, please get the hotest pcmanfm2 and libfm from
git since there are some important fixes.
It's a pity that Lubuntu didn't enter Ubuntu family this time, but
we'll be ready at the time of 10.10.
At that time, our google summer of code projects should be finished so
things are going to be improved.
In addition, as upower and udisks now have stable releases, it's time
to support them and provide better user experience.

In the past we always rushed to make new releases for LXDE components
 to test new features.
Now as the projects grows and more and more people are using it, we
need to meet the quality requirement of being a major desktop
 environment.
So a delay to release new components is sometimes better than to
 release a buggy one.
Let wait and see what will happen at the time of 10.10.
I bet it will be the best Lubuntu release ever.

 Cheers!

in the wiki pages was stated that the was the desire for Lubuntu to enter
into Canonical's stable of being officially a *buntu; as we approach the
beta2 testing - is there a timetable of Lubuntu actually getting a decision?

Informally, Lubuntu seems to receive support; but has Canonical made the
 decision yet?

We have to remember that lubuntu will be used on old hardware and the

another quick test: the alpha runs great, fast and quite stable. Some

One big feature request for pcmanfm2 (future releases not crucial to this
  lubuntu release):
Add a right click submenu that opens up the folder content when hovering.
 This
is a very nice feature that was originally integrated in BeOS and would
 make
working on desktop and in folders amazingly fast.

wow, I love the idea :D kinda resembles browsing files on fluxbox or

 more practical this way

Ok, i built up an old System with Pentium (i don't know if II or IV,

with Black screen you can see the panel and the Cursor- no Desktop and
no icons there. I didnt realize the arrow-Symbol to be the One for
network, maybe we should use another one. The System itself is
extremely slow, but thats the hardware (im just used to my 4gb RAM:-))
maybe we could use something else for the graphics , like kolourpaint
or so. The People we aim at are used to ms paint, and what we offer
them in lubuntu is too complicated. Ill go on in testing and ill write
