[Lubuntu-desktop] Roadmap for 12.04

2012-01-14 Thread Rob Peters
I just started testing 12.04 and my initial impression is that it's
wonderful! What to my surprise, there is now a shortcut option for the
desktop!

I do want to ask [again] one additional thing. The 11.04 theme has been
noted in various posts as being a winner, brilliant, stuning etc. I do
hope this theme will be available as an option on 12.04 and updated to
GTK-3.

The more I see of Lubuntu the more I like it. There are a couple of things
that might make things easier for prospective adopters.

1. Gnome 2 and xubuntu allow a user to create a launcher anywhere on the
desktop without having to build a .desktop file. Gnome 3 dropped this
feature and its a pain. Now, if your going to attract windows users most
everyone's desktop I see is littered with folders and icons.
So, my desire would be to adopt the xubuntu solution that allows for a
right-click on the desk to open a launcher constructor.

2. Searching for files and file content is a big issue for lots of windows
users. I needed to install the gnome-search-tool to do this. An easier
solution?

I know that themes are a very subjective area. For me personally, I
thought the 11.04 default theme was a big winner. The blue panel with
white text was sharp (IMO) along with the box headers. I am not so
impressed with the standards 11.10 theme. So, when you change the theme
form one release to the other can you include the prior theme for people
who don't like the new one.

[Lubuntu-desktop] Lubuntu Future - Target Market

2011-10-20 Thread Rob
So, I guess I have a philosophical question to ask of the Lubuntu
developers; where do you want to take Lubuntu and what do you want to
achieve in coming releases?

Today, there clearly is a distinction between Ubuntu(unity/gnome),
xubuntu(xfce), and lubuntu(lxde). While Ubuntu is feature rich and
heavy, Lubuntu is light-weight and moderate. Xubuntu falls in between.
But what about tomorrow?

Are you planning on just putting out a solid ubuntuized LXDE version or,
are our going to carefully add features to close the gap with xubuntu
while still keeping an eye on light weight (yes the two are not mutually
exclusive.)

Personally, I have tried both versions and IMO think Lubuntu has a lot
more promise.

[Lubuntu-desktop] Lubuntu 11.10 Autostart bug

2011-10-15 Thread Rob
If one updates the autostart file in folder /etc/xdg/lxsession/Lubuntu
and add an entry, say @leafpad %f, when on logs in again one get two
sessions of leafpad not one.

@lxpanel --profile Lubuntu
@xscreensaver -no-splash
@xfce4-power-manager
@pcmanfm --desktop --profile lubuntu
@/usr/lib/policykit-1-gnome/polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1
@leafpad %f

[Lubuntu-desktop] Autostart location

2011-10-14 Thread Rob
Installed 11.10 and Cairo dock. However, I want to turn the autostart
start of Cairo. In 11.04 it was controlled by the Desktop Session
Setting but its not there in 11.10. What conf file might this be in?
