Re: [lubuntu-users] wifi

2016-05-25 Thread Israel
Hi I found this link,
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Device/Ralink_RT5370

I suggest not using vim (unless you are familiar with it)
Use nano instead (also known as pico)

[lubuntu-users] Keyboard shortcuts to run arbitrary programs

2016-05-25 Thread Ian Bruntlett
Hi,

I use both Ubuntu and Lubuntu.

On Ubuntu I can use Super+1 to run the first program on the panel on the
left of the screen.

On Lubuntu, I can add programs onto the "Task bar" - added GNU emacs today,
to accompany the icons to 1) start PCManFM and 2) start a web browser. I'd
like to have a keyboard shortcut to run these options so I don't have to
use the mouse to start one of those programs.

Any ideas?

TIA,

Ian

Wilbert:

I have an RaLink wireless dongle (the one without an antennae, about the
size of a coin, sticking out of the USB connection about 1/4 inch). It
looks like the pictures I got searching for Ralink RT5830, but I don't
know if it is the same Ralink wireless hardware. It seems like it used
an rt2800usb driver, but my precise memory of it 'evaporated' as I
started typing this information.

This wireless dongle works with both Lubuntu 14.04, and 16.04. However,
it gets very poor reception from my DSL wireless modem upstairs.

Sometimes it 'sees' my wireless network, and sometimes it doesn't.

When it doesn't 'see' my wireless network, I can't use it.

Sometimes unplugging the wireless dongle, and re-plugging it in will get
it to work. Sometimes a reboot will get to work.

But that's too un-reliable, so I just use a different wireless dongle
(unless it's close to and in line-of-sight of the wireless modem).

[lubuntu-users] wifi

2016-05-25 Thread Wilbert Heeringa
Dear all,

I installed Lubuntu on a Toshiba Satellite M35X-S349. This is a laptop with
a Centrino processor. First I installed Lubuntu 14.04. In the installation
menu I entered the following command:

file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper initrd=/casper/initrd.lz quiet
splash – forcepae

Once Lubuntu 14.04 was installed, I upgraded to Lubuntu 16.04 with this
command:

sudo do-release-upgrade -d

I did not manage to installed Lubuntu 16.04 directly on this computer,
therefore this roundabout route via Lubuntu 14.04.

Now the problem is with the wifi adapter. On my HP desktop computer I
succesfully use the Ralink RT5370 wifi adapter in combination with Lubuntu
14.04 (thanks for Phill Whiteside). So I tried to use this adapter also for
the laptop. To some extent is adapter is recognized:

modinfo rt2800usb | grep 5370

alias: usb:vF201p5370d*dc*dsc*dp*ic*isc*ip*in*

alias: usb:v148Fp5370d*dc*dsc*dp*ic*isc*ip*in*

But when clicking on the wifi icon in the lower right corner of the screen
(left of the clock on the taskbar) not any wifi connection is listed.

I looked at many websites, but they did not help me, also since some of
them are outdated.

Does anybody know how to get the wifi usb adapter working on this laptop? I
would be immens thankful for any help.
