I have installed thisone in a VM and at first glance there are only a
few minor things missising.
The option to 'stretch the spacer' (this seems to be an important one
for me)

Some dialogs don't fit on a 800x600 VM screen. (just a bit annoying)
Some mouse cursor tooltips have their 'selection point' at an odd spot.
(not sure is i explain in the correct words)
If the hardware powerbutton can be used to send the power off signal
then the missing GUI power button may not even be an issue

And it would be nice if the custom colour pallet would/could be saved.
This pallet functionality behaves a bit odd / non-intuitive.

This LXQt is kinda nice :-)

[lubuntu-users] Lubuntu 16.04.1 Live causes overheating in a MacBook Pro C2D

@scrooyahoo:

This is a "known issue" which is mentioned in a sticky on the Ubuntu apple
users sub-forum . . . i.e., Intel Macs running "hot" . . . on the basic
ubuntu-ish OS's. I have now, in process of upgrading my '09 MBPro C2D to
LM 18 as we speak . . . fan blowing loudly throughout the several hour
upgrade process . . . . I used "macfancntrl" . . . which does get a bit
"technical" so I didn't have temp guidelines to set params with . . . just
deleted the "high" and "low" temps that the sensors were "reading" . . .
and it is "OK."

I did have Lu 14 installed for awhile on it . . . all of the linux OSs run
"warmer" than OSX, so my experience varies from Aere's in that respect. I
believe 16 is supposed to be "cooler" than 14 . . . .

I see that HH's link goes to an app that is for Linux 3.3?? but I think 18
is now going to 4???

Is there anyone who has managed to run the Lubuntu LiveUSB on one of
these machines, or even install Lubuntu 16.04?

I installed Lubuntu 16.04 on two different MacBooks (not the 'Pro'
version), one 64-bit, and the other 32-bit. That is 16.04 as opposed to
16.04.1. I did not encounter any difficulties. With Lubuntu, I always
install the 32-bit OS.

But I don't remember if I did a clean install, or if I upgraded from
15.10. My best guess is that I upgraded, now that I think of it.

The systems work fine, and the 64-bit machine is even one of my music
performance machines.

The machine's fan seems to run more when I use Mac OS X, than when I run
Lubuntu.

I also have a Ubuntu Unity (64-bit) partition on the 64-bit machine,
which works fine (it's my backup system on that machine).

[lubuntu-users] Fwd: Does a default Lubuntu dark theme exist?

2016-09-01 Thread Mark F
FWIW: I found a couple *nice* examples of LXQt desktops if people want to
see it:

LXQt on Ubuntu:

https://intialonso.github.io/

LXQt on Manjaro:

https://manjaro.github.io/Manjaro-Lxqt-16.05-released/

Those are .iso distros people can be install in VirtualBox to see how it
looks, how it was themed, etc.

I wouldn't rely on those as my regular desktop. They're not official
distros. Just something community members created.

If it is an EXE file, then it's a Windows program, not a Linux
program. It won't work. There are tools to run some Windows apps on
Linux but they won't be able to do things like change the desktop.

Hang on. That makes no sense.

*Either* use USB *or* Wifi but not both.

The purpose of USB tethering is for the PC to use the phone's mobile
data connection.

It's not for using the phone's wifi: use the computer's own wifi.
