Re: [lubuntu-users] "Software" and Ubuntu One?

2016-10-20 Thread Mark F
Can anyone find/install GIMP from the "Software" software? That's another
one I always installed without any complication. But, it doesn't even
appear in "Software."

I found GIMP in Aptitude.

I remember replacing Lubuntu Software Center (LSC) was posted to the list.
It's late to have this sentiment. But, I think it would have been better to
have nothing (use Aptitude) than replace the unsupported LSC with this
"Software" tool. As far as I can tell, people will have to use Aptitude
anyway (after being frustrated with "Software.").

Or, is it just me? Can others authenticate for LibreOffice (or, preferably
not even have to authenticate)? Do others see GIMP?

I really like gdebi for these very reasons Aere!

It is actually easier than the terminal method (though you can use it
from a terminal). It is something I automatically install usually anyhow.

Re: [lubuntu-users] wireless printer not showing up in lubuntu

2016-10-20 Thread Andre Campos Rodovalho
First thing to do, make sure HP linux drivers are installed.

You can use Synaptic Package Manager to install a Package called 'hplip'

After this you can try to find the network printer. If not found, you need
to use HP tools to make sure your printer is connected to the network. If
you can access your router, try to find DHCP leases, and figure out the IP
address the printer gets.

[lubuntu-users] wireless printer not showing up in lubuntu

2016-10-20 Thread Dennis Castanos
I bought a new HP LaserJetPrinter M402n. I am completely lost on how to
hook up wireless printing. USB works great. I have a ethernet cable from
the printer to the Netgear router, but the printer is not showing up in
Lubuntu.

I'm not a geek, but appreciate the simplicity of lubuntu. No windows 10 for
me.

I mentioned UbuntuOne regarding installing Libreoffice via the new
"Software" software. It seems you combined a couple threads(?).

"Fritz", please learn how to use quoting and quote appropriately in
your emails to the mailing list.

Use plain text.
Put your reply _below_ the section of the email you're replying to.
Trim the original so that only the bits you're answering, and who
wrote them, are left.
Each line of quoted text should begin with a > symbol. Doubly-quoted,

I do not know who or what you are replying to. Nobody has mentioned
UbuntuOne that I have seen.

Also there is a typo in the command.

I don't know who that is because you did not quote.

Synaptic is a front-end to APT. It is right there in the name: synAPTic.

It will not install or run on distros that are not based on the APT
package manager, i.e. Debian derivatives.

ChromeOS isn't based on APT or Debian. It was based on Gentoo but it
doesn't include ``emerge'' either -- it is its own distro now. AFAIK
it does not have a package manager at all. It is not intended to be
user-customisable.
