[lubuntu-users] Lubuntu Artful Aardvark Final Beta has been Released!

2017-09-28 Thread Simon Quigley
Lubuntu Artful Aardvark Final Beta has been released! The full release
announcement is available on the official Lubuntu website here:
http://lubuntu.me/lubuntu-artful-aardvark-final-beta-has-been-released/

A big thanks to the whole Lubuntu team and contributors for helping pull
this release together! If you would like to join our team and help make
Lubuntu 17.10 the best release ever, feel free to get involved[1]! Any
contribution of your time, no matter how small or trivial, helps us out.
We would especially like some help testing these milestones before they
are released to help identify any bugs. If you are interested in helping
with that, please subscribe[2] to the lubuntu-devel mailing list and
watch out for Calls for Testing, or join our IRC channel/Telegram group
as linked above. It is as simple as installing Lubuntu as you normally
would and marking it as “Passed” or “Failed” on the tracker. We look
forward to getting some help with this!

This is the first time I have experienced it.

I always test pre-release isos when asked on lubuntu-devel on this
particular netbook (Samsung NC10, 'hawking') so it is probably safe to say
this is a new problem.

The graphics PCI devices are:-
VGA compatible controller : Intel Corporation Mobile 945GSE Express
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
Display controller : Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML
Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)

Here is what I believe might be going on:-

There is a graphics issue. I think the kernel parameters "splash quiet"
somehow result in the graphics subsystem is somehow put into the wrong
mode, resulting in the wrong piece of memory being used for part of the
display, resulting in 80% of the screen being junk and 20% of the screen
being perfect.

It appears that booting from being switched off completely, with the kernel
parameters "quiet splash" removed, prevents the problem from happening in
the first place.

BW,

Ian

Was this present with 17.04 or any other 17.10 milestones?
