Install * Had a look at the papercuts listed on [1] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/YakketyYak/Beta1/Lubuntu * As usual, for an install iso too big for a CD-R, I used Startup Disc Creator to create USB install media. * Installed with no errors, using an Ethernet connection. * Rebooted OK, logged in OK/ Using the O.S. * Did a man mkdir command and got the error message "bash: man: command not found" * Which man revealed that man command not on path * Checked the keyboard for programmer specific keys - in particular double and single-quotes work fine. Ruby * Used Synaptic Package Manager (SPM) to install ruby, ruby2.3-doc * Tried commands irb, ri * Installed emacs using SPM * When editing a (Ruby) text file in emacs, noticed 2 mysterious blank lines between "File" etc at the top of the windows and the first line of a text file. Further investigation revealed that the usual icons that are usually near the top of the emacs windows weren't present, resulting in blank space. etc. * Installed gnome-games (SPM) and it worked fine. A big thanks to the whole Lubuntu team and contributors for helping pull this release together. You can grab the images from here: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/releases/yakkety/beta-1/ [1] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/YakketyYak/Beta1/Lubuntu Hi, *Yakkety i386 beta 1* A new mini.iso file was uploaded after we tested it yesterday. I think it contains the current debian installer. --- $ ls -l mini.iso -rw-rw-r-- 1 nio nio 50331648 aug 25 20:35 mini.iso $ md5sum mini.iso 9a82696d120d55ac15ccbdc32545c240 mini.iso --- I created a mini.iso system from it, and it works for me, for example thernet works out of the box. I installed lubuntu-desktop, and rebooted. Lubuntu created this way works like when installed via the Lubuntu Alternate iso file. In nm-applet the options about wired network is greyed out, but the wired network works, and it is possible to connect via wifi. -o- I tested again to install Lubuntu from the Lubuntu desktop beta1 iso file, manual selection of partitions 'Something else'. The installation was successful. In nm-applet the options about wired network are available (not greyed out). I updated & dist-upgraded this installed system and rebooted. The network (wired and wireless) works, and in nm-applet the options about wired network are still available (not greyed out). -o- So there is a difference between the behaviour of the installed system between Lubuntu installed via the debian installer (alternate and mini) and via ubiquity (desktop).
