Well, it probably won't be. I mean, who wants to use mobile apps on
desktop? One of the most exciting things I've seen on this front is DeX
from Samsung. It allows you to basically plug in your device into a dock
connected to input/output devices and essentially run the phone in a
bigger format. However, you're still using the apps on the phone. More
recently one of the "apps" they brought to DeX is [Ubuntu][1]. Think
about this: Samsung, essentially the #2 player in the smartphone market,
and thus the #1 player in Android, didn't bring Android to desktop, but
instead decided to run a desktop Linux distro on their devices.

No.

Again, adding the list. Please reply all.

I think this is a gross simplification that is more appropriately
described as the 2 things *YOU* want.

Then follow the instructions I gave you to tweak it to your liking.

This is not going to happen.

All the software is available in the Ubuntu archives as it is and always
has been, but as software becomes deprecated or unmaintained, all of the
packages may not always exist.

We always provide graphical solutions to install software but the Ubuntu
Software Center is not a standard part of the install. You can always
install it.

This is probably the most controversial of all the things you have
brought up because the modern web is anything but fast, safe, and easy.
If you want that, use a text browser, but then most sites will be
entirely unusable.

> *Users don't need "good look, heavy and slow when running"*

Then wouldn't it make more sense to concern ourselves with how the
system runs when you're using it rather than when you're booting it? Not
that those are necessarily at odds with one another, but sometimes they
are.

> *Simple is Powerful; like E=mc2*

You're saying relativity is simple? I would highly disagree.

Since you made this post to the mailing list, I'm including it back in
it. Please reply all so we can all be involved in the conversation.

I think it's erroneous to assume that software will simply remain the
same. Also, it would be erroneous to assume that Lubuntu wouldn't be
caught by the same changes shaping Ubuntu, at least on some level. We're
not using the same desktop interface, but we are using the same kernel.
We're also using the same init system. This is particulary relevant as
16.04 was the first LTS release that used systemd.

systemd is something that we could spend hours writing about pros and
cons of. In fact, it's been something of a holy war in the world of
Linux. Far too much time has been wasted arguing about the pros and cons
of it. The reality of it is that, for Lubuntu, since Ubuntu is using it,
we're using it. And that means we're mostly at the whims of what Ubuntu
decides to do with regards to configuration.

However, one should note that unlike the previous init system, systemd
is lazy or dependency-based, which is like saying it doesn't load things
until needed. Oddly, this can mean that sometimes if a service is not
loaded as early as possible, the *overall* boot time can be increased.

Which gets at another thing: you can affect the system and customize it
for yourself. The first part of that is analyzing things. You can find
out a little bit about that here:
https://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/systemd-blame.html
https://wiki.freedesktop.org/www/Software/systemd/Optimizations/

The other thing I'll mention is that since Lubuntu has historically been
focused on limiting resource use as much as possible, we have used zram.
However, because of a bug in initramfs, boot times were increaed
because of this. We plan on fixing this in 18.04 and so on, but
meanwhile you can use the manual workaround mentioned there if you are
affected:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/initramfs-tools/+bug/1781746

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here. Lubuntu is, at its core,
Ubuntu. They certainly both share the exact same kernel, which is the
sort of thing that would have an effect on whether or not a device would
work.

What is the ID of this device? `lsusb` should tell you, at least
assuming the device, port, and bus is all working correctly. Have you
reported a bug anywhere or seen any others?

why doesn't LUBUNTU 16, 17, 18, come "out of the box"
don't follow Serial Ubuntu ...!
After Lubuntu/Ubuntu 14.04, Modem Huawei e-3276

does not work.

Important Advice =
The Best Ubuntu is 14.04, very good if LUBUNTU upgrades the security system
from Ubuntu 14.04 every 5 years, but doesn't follow Ubuntu...!

thankyou
