And the trouble is Encarta needs to be updated regularly. They should do something with/like Wikipedia. Write a data connection to download Wikipedia open source db every week to a central server. You yawn easily. 50? I hope 50 is not the number of kiosks. I have seen these Kiosks and know each one is just a pc in a large case. Considering this is Linux, the emphasis should be on reuse of outdated winboxes with Linux (cheap pcs) and the provision Of 50 free data connections. Providing a pipe for thirty to connect as many taps as they choose is more effective than providing a bunch of taps. Re: [LUG] So it begins
I do not yawn easily :) 50 deployments means approximately 150 workstations. They are solar powered, ruggedized, and have data connections. They are generally placed in extremely remote areas that are not otherwise served by the traditional education system. They are not the ancient Digital Drum or Digital Doorway models. These are wall-mounted Intel Classmate PCs converted to tablet form with USB keyboards and mice. Some of these deployments have been operational for years and generally require little maintenance. They're not perfect, but they're a hell of a lot cooler than what Microsoft is doing :) On Sep 20, 2013 12:26 PM, James S. K. Makumbi jmark...@gmail.com wrote: You yawn easily. 50? Re: [LUG] So it begins
Well I got this through a link from the British council about how cool it was. I think it is a little disingenuous of MS to supply Encarta instead of the countless other content providers just because it's their product.
