Thanks, Dan. Never mind psychic lutherie, I fancy some "side-kick lutherie", where the apprentice does all the work - but then that's exactly what the old guys did Martin On 10/10/2010 18:07, Daniel Winheld wrote: Don't be so modest. Martin: There is no way Windows Movie Maker can animate those still photos. In order to do "proper video" you have to buy a movie camera...;-) Windows Movie Maker is actually quite decent for doing YouTube-quality short clips. Any other program you obtain will probably have the same general structure -- a timeline onto which you drag and drop segments of video, audio, titles, credits, trailers, etc. In my experience there is going to be a considerable learning period no matter what package you use. The best "amateur" program is probably Vegas, from Sony. It is relatively inexpensive, is available in several versions with different levels of features, and you can download it and try it out for 30 days before you have to pay. By the way, very nice playing on the clip you just posted! Cutting is *not* easy. So, is that wonderful instrument we adore (=tuning) going to survive without new and clever music composed? I guess not. Gilbert Isbin has written some pieces for lute in G tuning. Jerzy Zak writes: "Unfortunately, modern music needs playing on the highest level, including a well tuned instrument." So that counts almost all, if not all, amateurs out. I think that is bit sad! Here's a (flawed) amateur stab at a modern (or contemporary, not sure of the difference) piece by Gilbert Isbin. [LUTE] Re: How to make a lute in five minutes
Thanks, Stuart. I would love to do a real video showing some "live" lutemaking, but it involves having someone (other than me) to do the video and some knowledge about video formats etc. And of course, I will (in time) do some live playing and some teaching (David van Oijen has started the ball rolling magnificently there). Having had a channel for a long time with nothing on it, I thought I should put *something* up there as a marker. Thanks for your encouragement, Martin On 10/10/2010 11:40, Stuart Walsh wrote: That's a very attractive performance, Martin. Windows Movie Maker isn't so bad. You can use it, as you have done for just photos. I would have used a very simple transition to make the photos blend into one another (but, of course, you can overdo transitons). Microsoft also do Photo Story 3, which is downloadable and free and it is just for photos in slide shows combined with music (and narration, if you want). I use somthing old, called U-Lead Video-8. Crashes a lot, doesn't run on my new Windows7 computer, is a general nuisance, but can do overlays (movie in a movie).
