[LUTE] Re: Instrument Buzz
Edward: When did you start to notice the buzz? Was it always present as long as you have owned the instrument? Did it appear suddenly out of nowhere? Have you changed a string lately, and that is when the buzz started? Try holding the instrument with your fingers on the underside and with your thumb go round the edge of the soundboard applying a LITTLE pressure to see whether there are any noises of the soundboard moving against a bar (like a little click probably). You can also tap lightly on different areas of the top with the tip of your middle finger to see if there are any unwelcome noises. Obviously do this as gently as possible. Have you checked on the relative humidity? If you have a concert coming up and you think there is a loose bar, make sure the relative humidity is at least 50% (but no more than 65%) and this might resolve the issue temporarily. [LUTE] Re: Vincent Dumestre's theorbo?
Dear Éric, The issue with these instruments d'après tableaux de Watteau offered under the name "théorbe de pièces ou angélique" is that they have eight strings on their fretboards. The instrument in Watteau's La Finette has even less, viz. six strings. Surviving music for the angélique requires ten strings on the fretboard so that the 9th and 10th strings may be fretted (1st fret on the 10th [C#], and 4th fret on the 9th [F#], strings, frequently). Both instruments built d'après tableaux de Watteau may pass as true théorbes des pieces, but not as angéliques IMHO. [LUTE] Instrument Buzz
Hi everyone, A bit of buzz is driving me crazy. I have a renaissance guitar and there’s a buzz that starts with the plucked note and dies down quite quickly. I’ve checked the bridge for any loose bits of string - nothing. I’ve checked the pegbox/peghead for loose buzzy strings - nothing. No possibility of frets being too high and buzzing, as the buzzing happens at all notes at all positions. I’m hoping it’s not something beneath the soundboard that’s loose and causing the buzz. It doesn’t buzz when the instrument is flat, with the rose facing up. It buzzes when the instrument is in a playing position - with the rose facing sideways. It buzzes with the rose facing down. I’m on the verge of having this sent to the nearest luthier, but have a performance coming up. I just hope the audience won’t be able to hear the subtle buzz, as we’re not being amplified… Best, Edward To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html
[LUTE] Re: decent field recorder for lute
Thank you! The new H4n Pro seems to have the preamps of the H6 - so the noise might be lower. Damn, this is really a hard decision... If semi-pro home recording is easy with this thing, it's definitely a pro. Anyone have the Tascam DR-07x? Since it is Mac OS compatible, Linux is probably working too. Regarding your last question, Tristan: yes, one can use it as a USB sound processing device. When you connect it via USB, it let you choose a mode: storage (copy files only, not recharge a battery, I'm afraid) or as Input/Output interface for your computer. In second mode you can use it as sound card and record directly to computer. I use it different ways: as a live recorder, as a sound card, as a 'home studio' device and it works fine all the time. Fast connection, clear menu with simple navigation. Comparing preamps with zoom h6 and other similar I can say, old H4 sounds more 'bassy' what makes interesting effect on the lute (nice attack on unwound basses on archlute). And a tiny bit more noissy also, but it's not a problem if you set the gain accurately. And experimenting with some effects (dinamique eq, band compression) it can makes nice results. Very good and comfortable device for any kind of home/field work. I get very good results with Olympus LS10, LS-20M (for audio and video) and LS-100 recorders. Cheers! Lex > Op 20 mei 2019, om 12:26 heeft Ralf Mattes het volgende > geschreven: > > > Am Sonntag, 19.
