[LUTE] Re: Ballet's Lute Book: Blessed be that maid Mary

2006-12-13 Thread adS
This looks like "staynes moris", the third piece on page 91 of Ms.408/2,
Trinity
College Library.

This manuscript is bound together with the so-called Ballet lute book.

I have a film of the manuscripts and a poor XEROX copy of both.

I can try to scan the piece and send it.

That is the same tune as in the christmas collection of the LSA
I mentioned.
And it is probably the same one as:

If it is a morris tune, then you could go to Utrecht, David,
they seem to have an exiled morris side there.

Going from my faulty memory, I'd say its title in the Ballet
book is something like "Staynes Morris." It is a morris
dance tune, too, if you play it a little faster.

It was given to me in an arrangement for harp, by the harp teacher of my music
school. Here's my attempt at your trick. Just the beginning of the melody.
There may be a transposition:

|  ||\   |  |  |\  |\   |   |\
|  |||  |. |   ||   |

-|---|--|
-r---r---a---|-ra ---|-a-r-a|
-r---|d--r-d-|d-r---a---|
-|---|r-|
-|---|--|
-|---|--|

Does this make any sense to you? If not, I'll send you a proper staff notation
tomorrow, too late now.
