[LUTE] Re: Microphones on live performances
If you want to mike up the lute while the band is playing, you will need something that has a very good rejection pattern with placeable nulls, or a contact mic, with the bubble gum--unless you wish to drill. The Schoeps MK41 would do that, and give you a great sound, but most people would use a contact mic in that situation. The 41 is a supercardioid, and the nulls on the side of the mic will give you flexible placement You can try the StudioTech B1, but it is pretty wide, if you are looking for a budget mic. Cannot beat it for $89. To my ear, only Schoeps and Sennheisers and custom mics sound good on lute. If your band has mainly electric, you want to be in the same Z, and there a classical condenser mic will work, but not with jumping through hoops. The trade off is a bit of sound quality for being able to plug right in. Take the lute down to the guitar center during a slow moment, say 2:30. after the hangover has worn off, but before the jammers, and try out the pickups. For goofing, the wearable sennheiser wireless is a must have. Roving wireless amped lute duets--it is awesome. dt Hi, people Does anyone have any advice on microphones for live performances? I'm thinking about play my lute with my band just some gigs. Well, any tips!? Thanks in advance - Abra sua conta no Yahoo! There's also the Schertler DYN-G stick-on (http://www.schertlerusa.com/dyn.htm), which I've gotten reasonably good results with (albeit limited by my cheap amp). If you do decide to go with a stick-on, be prepared to spend some time experimenting with placement. Because it's responding to the local vibration of the instrument, location has a large impact on the sound you get out of it. I tried the back, and it came out rather shrill in the treble and weak in the base. For me, the best spot I found was on the top, slightly above the bass end of the bridge, a little towards the rose. YMMV. What about the AKG C411? I'm also interested on clip on mics. 2008/2/24, Guy Smith [EMAIL PROTECTED]: There's also the Schertler DYN-G stick-on (http://www.schertlerusa.com/dyn.htm), which I've gotten reasonably good results with (albeit limited by my cheap amp). Josephsons are very good, and I've also had excellent results with the small, clip-on mics you can find at Radio Shack and places like that.
