Implementing the HTML5 document object model would involve an almost complete re-write, from the ground up, of all the code that handles the parsing and rendering of HTML. Implementing what I call the browser object model would also be difficult because of parallelism expected in modern "web applications", and because it is directed towards GUI user interfaces. Together these, rather than the scripting language, is what people really mean when they use the term Javascrpt, loosely. My view is that, if you want an AJAX web application platform, with a character cell interface, it would be easier to start with one of the standard GUI browsers and take out the GUI, than to start from Lynx. It still would not be HTML5 compliant, as HTML5 is about producing the same display and behaviour on all browsers (even for invalid documents). ___ Lynx-dev mailing list Lynx-dev@nongnu.org https://lists.nongnu.org/mailman/listinfo/lynx-dev
[Lynx-dev] possible? is text browsers and current web standards
Hi everyone, Recently on the blinux discussion list, someone pointed out an aspect of WaCG 2.0, that might? Be incorporated into lynx. Certainly I understand why java script is not incorporated. still, I share the idea below, wondering if this might be done, and if not why not? Lynx is a fluid quality and expanding browser, with a reputation deserving of respect. If this factor could be added the benefits for millions would be great. Here is part of the details. On Tue, 27 Jun 2017, Linux for blind general discussion wrote: 1.) It's great to see Lynx still being updated for what can reasonably be supported. I say it that way because adding javascript support would be a massive, and unending task, i.e. I can show you sites where current Firefox and current Google Chrome don't work, but Chrome Canary does work. 2.) The W3C/WAI approach for making dynamic scripted content, i.e. javascript accessible is ARIA: http://www.w3.org/wai/aria Adding aria support to lynx might be a reasonable addition for someone to take on. It would be a much more achievable objective than supporting all of javascript. thoughts? Karen ___ Lynx-dev mailing list Lynx-dev@nongnu.org https://lists.nongnu.org/mailman/listinfo/lynx-dev
