If you don't use \texorpdfstring, the word 'LyX' is displayed 'L.25emyX'
due to its definition in the section 'LyX specific LaTeX commands' of
the preamble. The same will happen for ligature breaks and the word
'\AmS' in chapter 5.
If you have footnotes in sections like in chapter 4.3.2 of the
de_Userguide, you won't be able to produce a pdf without using
\texorpdfstring.
These problems occur, because the PD1 encoding is used for bookmarks.
PD1 does only allow ASCII-characters (no sub- or superscripts). But this
restriction makes sense, it keeps the bookmarks clean and readable.
I don't think this makes the on-screen in-LyX view ugly.
