lyx on SGI

1999-02-26 Thread jph

Jean-Marc Lasgouttes ironized
> I suspect that your installation is not perfect :)

An excellent observation!

On Irix-6.5.2, the teTeX-0.4 install was my problem:
-it had compiled to the end with gcc (egcs-1.1b) but produced a
faulty TeX which failed only occasionally. I later found in the
make trace the errors by initex.
-it failed to compile with cc (version 7.2) and the -32 option,
contrary to the teTeX install note (relating to 6.0.1).
-it compiled with cc and -n32 producing miles of warnings,
but TeX now works and all the LyX manuals print correctly :-)

So there was no LyX install problem to report really.
No crash (yet) from my old Xpm 3.4,
but i'll update it asap with 4.7

thank you, jean-pierre

This one is more a problem of you dvips installation than a problem of
LyX. Note however that there is a set of variables you can use to
customize the spooling command which is used.

There should not be such errors... What were they? I suspect that your

I think this is a latex installation problem.

I first thought my install was successful,
but i am now discovering problems
some of which i have not yet fixed. Help welcome :-)

1 i could not print direct from menu, a dvips config problem

line: o |lpr
into: o |lp

UsrGuide.log looks like this:

! Undefined control sequence.
\reserved@a ->\@nil

l.4688 \texttt{\~{}/.lyx/lyxrc}

The control sequence at the end of the top line

misspelled it (e.g., `\hobx'), type `I' and the correct
spelling (e.g., `I\hbox'). Otherwise just continue,
and I'll forget about whatever was undefined.
.etc, etc...

is this a doc, lyx, teTeX or sgi install problem?

I just installed lyx-1.0 on irix 6.5.2 with development option.
I had previously installed gcc and gnu-make which are used by
default.

No major problem so far, although configure warned that Xpm
was a rather oldish version with threats of 'weird crashes'.
No problem installing teTeX/xforms either.

Only glitches so far:
-WARNING: plp: context IRQ out of order->stop printing
-what looks for lpr does not find it->call lp by hand

Hmm, I had the impression that no additional libs would be needed with
the static version?

Sometime libxpm isn't installed on IRIX 6.2, install it, check it at

Thanks for your reply Steve!

I managed to install the binary static version of LyX in another
machine that has IRIX 6.2. Now it is almost working! (Thanks a lot for
creating this binary version!) The only problem is that the icons are
not being displayed. Actually, on startup I get a lot of messages like
this:
In CreateXPM [pixmap.c 303] error converting: (Invalid file)
But it seems that Bernd ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) had the same problem
with IRIX 6.3. I'll wait to see if someone got the solution. Greetings,
Harry.

Re: lyx on SGI

1999-02-09 Thread Roland Krause

I am fairly shure, that the binary distribution is either outdated or
for IRIX-6.2 which wont work for 5.3.
You can therefore either get gcc and xpm and xforms and all the other stuff
you will need and compile it yourself or I can try to send you a binary.
Note though that you will have to have xpm and xforms libraries on your system.

Hi Roland,

I am also trying to run lyx on IRIX-5.3.
I first tried to compile the source with no success. Couldn't find
the xpm.h! (and probably because I don't have gcc but only c++).
Now I tried to install the binary static distribution, but as I type
lyx, it returns the message : Killed.
Do you have any other sugestion??? Greetings, Harry.

RE: lyx on SGI

1999-02-09 Thread Roland Krause

I run LyX on IRIX-5.3 since almost forever.
Runs great, have to compile with gcc though.
There are many other people that run under IRIX-6.2.
If you need a binary check out the main ftp site.

Roland
