export to ps and transfer to windows. Install gstools under Windows, as

This should work.

Re: LyX and LaTeX behaviour differ

From: "Jean-Pierre.Chretien" [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: LyX and LaTeX behaviuor differ
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hello,

Using LaTeX to fill-in parametrized pages, I used
to put a default file in the texmf tree which was
replaced by a modified file in the document directory.

This deos not work any more in LyX, the .dep file is not
aware of the existence of a file of the same name in the local
directory and loads the default.

If I export as LaTeX, all is OK again, kpathsea finds the local
before the global.

How are made exactly the dependencies ?
I know how to workaround (put the absolute path, e.g.), howvever
as I would like to keep the \input instruction in tyhe global both
for Lyx and LaTeX users, it would be better if it worked the same.
Perhaps the solution comes with 1.1, as I read recently it will deal with updates
of bib files ?

Regards

--
Jean-Pierre

I answer myself to this old post because I found a better workaround than absolute
path:
instead of giving the same name to the local and global files
and leaving the selection to the kpathsea utility, I put foo_default.tex
in the standard teTeX tree, and put a conditional \input order to select
\IfFileExists{foo.tex}{\input{foo}}{\input{foo_default}}

This allows to remove completely the \input from the template document
and put it in the class or package: local files of standard name can be included
automatically, with a default file if the customized file is not provided.

This is a little bit off the list main topic, sorry.

Reuben Scanning the list archive, I find the solution: make a symlink

Reuben kludge, as it is not needed for sgml2latex to work. It seems
Reuben to me that LyX-configure should be fixed so that it finds
Reuben linuxdoc-sgml.sty without needing such a link.

It seems that the answer is that we don't care whether LyX can find
linuxdoc-sgml.sty or not, since the scripts handle what is necessary.
I'll just remove that from the tests and from LaTeXConfig.lyx.in. Are
there other places that I should check?

marked text output

1999-01-16 Thread Torsten Mueller

Currently I am using LyX to write my thesis and like it very much.
Oone feature however, that I am missing very much in LyX is the clipboard
to export text (import works well).

The problem is, that normally we work with several programs (LyX of course,
Framemaker, Powerpoint and other Windows programs we have to use, we do it with
Wabi, normal Text Editors, ...)

At the moment it is very hard, to get out some text quickly from LyX.
O.k. I could output as text, and then search the lines I need, but in a hundred
pages document?

I have read, that this is an already known problem.
Is there something planned?

Maybe an easy to implement workaround could be, that marked text could be
exported as text, or that it could be simply printed to stdout?

Thanks,
Torsten

comma as separator in german numbers

1999-01-16 Thread Joern Schmedt auf der Guen

Hello,

The german way of spelling numbers isn´t using "." as the floating point in numbers
like "1.234" but a comma ",", such that the example would look like "1,234".
The trouble is that the postscript output of "1,234" typed in math-mode isn´t
"1,234" but carries an extra space:"1, 234". Is there a way around this
feature? At the moment I use a workaround: I leave the math-editor for the
comma but this doesn´t work for more complicated formulas. Any help is very
welcome.

Many thanks to the people behind the LYX-project. I don't miss any
MS-application at all.

How lyx allows such a thing? I can only open a lyx window and begin my

This is impossible, as I said, the message still appears if I ask for

Re: LyX and LaTeX behaviour differ

1999-01-16 Thread Jean-Pierre.Chretien

\IfFileExists{foo.tex}{\input{foo}}{\input{foo_default}}

This allows to remove completely the \input from the template document
and put it in the class or package: local files of standard name can be included
automatically, with a default file if the customized file is not provided.

This is a little bit off the list main topic, sorry.

Reuben kludge, as it is not needed for sgml2latex to work. It seems
Reuben to me that LyX-configure should be fixed so that it finds
Reuben linuxdoc-sgml.sty without needing such a link.

It seems that the answer is that we don't care whether LyX can find

marked text output

 You probably begin to create output in the dvi before the \begin{document}
(e.g. just have some plain text in the preamble which LaTeX tries
 to process).

How lyx allows such a thing? I can only open a lyx window and begin my
document, I do not do anything else.

Perhaps there is a problem with your latex-installation? Did you tried
to latex something outside lyx?

This is impossible, as I said, the message still appears if I ask for
exporting.

No, it is just that this ^%#&^%$ french style redefines the items when
\begin{document} is encoutered [*]. This means that labels in the
preamble get overwritten. So anything which is done _after_
\begin{document} should be safe.

[*] No, this not is not to say that I forgot an 'n' in "encountered".
It is rather to explain that in french, we use -- rather than \bullet

When one uses \boldsymbol in math mode, LyX provides the definition

Shouldn't the instruction be rewritten

There is a check box in Layout->Document which is supposed to let you

Thanks,
Torsten

Unfortunately, we need first to rewrite the export-to-text feature. So
this will certainly not happen very soon.

Thanks Jean-Marc !

It works. I just didn´t think of switching the caption inside the float
to standard.

comma as separator in "german" numbers

Cheers Joern

Shaded rows in a longtable

1999-01-16 Thread Benjamin Korvemaker

Ok.
I've beat my brain over this. How do I shade rows in a longtable?
I tried using colortab, but I was unsuccessful.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Ben

There is a note in the TeX FAQ about this, see (this is in german, but there
should be an english version at http://www.tex.ac.uk/cgi-bin/texfaq2html):

http://www.dante.de/faq/de-tex-faq/html/makros4.html#32

Hope this helps, Albrecht.

Perhaps there is a problem with your latex-installation? Did you tried
to latex something outside lyx?

When doing File>Export>Latex ???

Ciao!
