Language settings

2001-05-01 Thread Andreas Bauer

Hello everybody

I hope this is not a candidate for FAQ or RTFM. Anyway, here it comes: how
can I change the language settings for my document? Everytime I switch from
English to German, LyX (or LaTeX?) complains as soon as I enter the
Postscript preview mode. I guess I'm missing some LaTeX lang. modules, but
being a real bloody beginner in LaTeX, I need some advice on where to install
them.

Thanks for any suggestions. BTW I'm using LyX 1.1.6fix1 on Linux and tetex
1.0.7.

Andi.

There is one thing I really missed in LyX, the reveal code window.

As I understand LyX, it is a front end to LaTeX, much of the codes are
hidden. But you can add TeX codes anywhere or anywhen. Would'nt it be
nice to see the hidden codes: you can learn them, you can modify them,
you get more control over your document.

Is this idea beyond the philosophy of LyX?

Document containing several files and bibliographies

2001-05-01 Thread Christian Naeger

Hi,

I have a document which includes (via include file) several files. At the
end of the (master) document should be the bibliography. How can I achieve
this?

When I write my bibliography in the master document, I can't reference it
in the single files (as they don't know about the master file).

If I provide each file with its own bibliography, Lyx 1.1.6 (Jan 11, 2001)
crashes on compiling the master file.

How can this be done?

Thanks a lot, Chris

If have a document with a table of contents, and you change the language of
the document from English to German (and you latex'ed the file before the
language change), when you first run latex you will get an error because
the old table of contents (in the .toc file) is still in English.
However, if you run latex again, everything will be fine (as the first latex
run create a new table of contents).

I've already create a fix in LyX so it will automatically run LaTeX twice
after changing the document language.

Try here
http://directory.google.com/Top/Computers/Software/Typesetting/TeX/BibTeX/

and when put "bibtex postgresql" into Google (www.google.com), I
have got (amont others) this page
http://www.drostan.org/Cybrary/links/applications/bibliography/
which mentions http://rmdb.webpipe.net/index.html, who are said
to maintain bibliographies in PostgreSQL and export (maybe even
import???) to BibTeX.

Sometimes, it seems to me LyX makes it wrong and then it is
difficult to persuade it, what to do. My solution is export to
LaTeX and check that,

* \documentclass has only your primary language
* \usepackage{babel} has all languages used in the document
* there are no non-sensical \setlanguage (sometimes, I have
found, that LyX covered all document in \setlanguage
primary-language of document and in \documentclass was something
non-sensical).

Clean it up and import into LyX. Unfortunately, I have no
example at hand to fire the bug report (but maybe it is a
feature :-), who knows?).

Herbert,
Do you mean the European Concrete Fonts (ECC)? Does it support 12 pts?
Thanks

I now have a file which contains only my (global) bibliography. It would be
nice if I could include this file in my main document. However, trying to
do so causes Lyx 1.1.6 to crash, even when the bib file is the only item in
the main document. I can insert the file though. But include would be
better.

Is this a bug?

Ciao, Chris

pybliographic

I am using pybliographic for lyx (the excuse for asking here)
and wonder whether somebody knows how to get rid of double entries besides
doing it manually.

I think you are on to something here. When I just tried it again it suddenly
worked - magically. The same thing wouldn't work all weekend and I kept
reading manuals and all documentation I could find...

Well, not necessary anymore. But thank you, I started to doubt my sanity over
that one :-) And no, unfortunately I can't reproduce this error. So no bug
report possible either.

Cheers,
Andi.

See the blue line in the title ? This means that the language for the title
is different than the language of the document, namely your title has
'german' language.
To fix this, select all the text in the title, open the layout->character
dialog, select 'Reset' in the language field (and 'No change' in all other
fields) and press apply.

You shouldn't get this errors.
Did you change the 'Package' field in the lang-opts->language tab of the
preferences dialog ?
You should change it back to the default '\usepackage{babel}'

The problem is that the 1st and 3rd cells has invalid multi-column alignment
values. Press the 2nd mouse button on the 1st cell, goto the 'cell' tab,
and erase the contents of the 'Alignment' field, and do the same to the 3rd
cell.

\addtolength{\tabcolsep}{-2pt}

I've attached a fixed file.

PS: Why you use the itemize layout for the answer list ?
You should use something else (e.g. description).

No.

And since there is no such thing in LaTeX, I doubt that LyX will have it
soon...
