Installing styles
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 I recently discovered LyX and am amazed and astounded at how wonderful it is! I've been asking myself, Where has this program been all my life??? However, I've suddenly run into an area that is not well covered by the documentation, namely, adding styles. I want to write a linguistics paper and found the covington style over at CTUG for creating glosses and whatnot. However, I cannot find any instructions on how to install it. Here's what I have done: upon downloading covington.sty, I moved it to /usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/misc (I'm running Debian, btw). I then ran 'texhash' as instructed by some other documentation for LaTeX on the web, and then started up LyX. I created a new document and in the preamble wrote '\usepackage{covington}' just like the documentation said. Then I wrote Testing as standard, and created a DVI--and got 36 errors. Re: Problems importing latex.
Hello, Since nobody has steped out to give me a hand I thought I would put some more info just in case. I really love lyx and would hate to have to stop using it because of these minor problems. I tried the theorem bug with the article(AMS) document layout and it seems to be working ok, so I guess I'll try going back a forth from one to the other since they seem to be pretty compatible. The problem with \cal is serious though, I have lots of entries and would be a pain to have to go and redo all of them. The \cal problem seems to happen no matter what document layout I use, so it seems to be a bug in lyx. Any suggestions? I mean, if the bug can't be fixed, maybe somebody can think of a workaround? 1. How can I add a vertical line between Matrix columns? For Horizantal lines I use \cline{from-to} which works fine. But I haven't found the command to do the same for vertical lines. 2. How can I change Matrix size / alignment after I created it and put values in it? Tried to change values in the Math Panel and Apply... doesn't work (and adds unwanted spaces). 3. Is there a way to combine matrix squares? (like in Tabulars) 4. How do I fix/use the, probably, bug with Multi-line equations when I mistakely delete the 3rd Square and it becomes only 2? 5. Is there a shortcut to insert delimeters? (opening math panel, pressing on delim button and apply sure does take lotsa time) 6. Is there an easy way to insert a well aligned matrix for Long Fractions? example 123 -| 3454| 52 32 25 35 .. .. . .(and so on) 7. What's the correct way to insert Hexadecimal digits? Writing python documentation with LyX?

Installing styles
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 I recently discovered LyX and am amazed and astounded at how wonderful it is! I've been asking myself, "Where has this program been all my life???" However, I've suddenly run into an area that is not well covered by the documentation, namely, adding styles. Then I wrote "Testing" as standard, and created a DVI--and got 36 errors. Note that I did not to create glosses or do anything other than write "Testing", so clearly I have either installed it incorrectly or need to do some other hand-waving to get it to work. Suggestions? Re: Problems importing latex.
Hello, Since nobody has steped out to give me a hand I thought I would put some more info just in case. I really love lyx and would hate to have to stop using it because of these "minor" problems. Thanks, -Mario
Re: Including scatter plots in LyX
Sorry this is rather late in the day, but I have been using ktexmaker which is a(nother) front end for LaTeX. This has xgfe integrated into it and runs just fone on my Mandrake 8.0 box. I am using ktexmaker2-16 BTW ktexmaker is neat for fiddling with LaTeX directly, but LyX is still heaps more useful for me when writing papers etc. Pete - Original Message - From: "Kent Kostuk" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Markus Mohr" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Cc: "Kent Kostuk" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; "Wayan" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; "LyxUsers" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Monday, December 17, 2001 2:05 AM Subject: Re: Including scatter plots in LyX > Here is what I did. > > 1. Mathmode questions
1. How can I add a vertical line between Matrix columns? For Horizantal lines I use \cline{from-to} which works fine. But I haven't found the command to do the same for vertical lines. 2. How can I change Matrix size / alignment after I created it and put values in it? Tried to change values in the Math Panel and "Apply"... doesn't work (and adds unwanted spaces). Is there an easy way to insert a well aligned matrix for "Long Fractions"? example 123 -| 3454| 52 32 25 35 .. .. . .(and so on) 7. What's the correct way to insert Hexadecimal digits? (i've been using m-c r and the letter so it'll be straight) 8. What's the shortcut/place to insert a Field letter like N,Z,Q,R,C that will look like the written letter and not like just a big letter? Thanks!

Writing python documentation with LyX?
Hi all, I'd like to know if someone has used LyX for writing documents which conform to the Python doc standards. Basically this would mean having written the lyx layout files corresponding to the manual and howto document classes defined by Python. It would save me a lot of work not to have to do those from scratch if someone has already done them. I searched the archives and couldn't find anything of this sort. Thanks, F.
Problem typing math exposant with my sun 5 keyboard with 1.2.0cvs
