upper case subscript, vertical spacing within a matrix

2002-05-12 Thread Nirmal Govind

Hi,

Two issues:

1. When I write an upper case subscript for a bold letter within the math
mode, my subscript isn't low enough and thus the top of the subscript is
very close to the top of the bold letter. LyX displays it fine in the
editor but the dvi and ps output have this problem. How do I correct this?

2. How do I control the vertical spacing between elements in a
column/matrix within the math mode? I have a vector in a column format and
the elements of the vector are what I've mentioned above (bold letters with
upper case subscripts). The whole vector seems too compressed in the
output... it would be great if I could add some space between the elements
in the vector.

I'm using LyX 1.1.6fix4 on cygwin...

Thanks,
nirmal

Well, sorry if I misjudged the complexity of the task. As I said, I've never
actually looked at the lyx code.

But I do think that you are going to have a lot of people screaming bloody
murder if this goes into a public release. Going against what basically every
text editor/word processor on earth does on something as common as a paste
operation is going to throw a lot of people off.

And I think it's not just habit, but there's a good reason for the common
behavior to be so: after you hit 'paste' (whether via keyboard or mouse) you
should be able to continue editing right there. If the first key you touch
automatically destroys your pasted text (because it remained selected), I
can't see that being anything other than an unpleasant surprise.

I hope this isn't too much of a burden to you guys. I know you've put a lot of
work into this release and we're all waiting eagerly for it. And we are
_really_ grateful for the fabulous tool that lyx is, honest.

1.2.0pre5 install problems

2002-05-12 Thread faunt

Hi,

I have been using 1.1.6fix3 successfully and had compiled from source.

I'm having problems doing the same on 1.2.0pre5.

LyX will open and have one menu category -- file, and then adds edit and
document when I open a file.

Whether opening an old or creating a new file when ever I try to type
anything other than a carriage return it won't accept entry. The status
line reads unknown function.

I've been following all the documentation carefully. I have xforms-0.89,
libxpm, etc. nothing has changed with tetex, latex installations. I did up
grade to xfree86-4.2.0 but the previous LyX still worked. (linux -
slackware - 8.1 beta -- everything seems quite stable as usual)

The configure and make steps say it was successful. I can't find anything
in config.log or in any of the docs that seems to pertain. Though surely
I'm missing SOMETHING. The make install goes with no errors also. But then
these apparently truncated menus and no acceptance of input.

What I'm missing must just be so big and obvious it's ready to bite me.
But damn if I can find it!

Anyone got a clue of what these symptoms might mean?

thanks much,
jamie faunt

the psfrags-parameter must be written in real tex and

the graphicx-package doesn't use the resize-command,
so you need a little trick. see attached file.

Cheers,

f.

The status
line reads "unknown function."

Anyone got a clue of what these symptoms might mean?

thanks much,
jamie faunt
