Did you run the conversion twice?
In the first run latex creates a file in which it stores where references are
located. This is used in the second run to fill these locations with the
corresponding number of the reference (and the file is updated).

The same applies in some other cases, so if something doesn't look right,
'compile' it again. Some special cases even need a third run.

Normally, LyX should automatically do these reruns. I suppose there is
another problem with the bibliography. Sometimes it helps to export the lyx

At least when you have some familiarity with latex, the log will help you to
locate the problem. (Otherwise, send it here...)

Does MatLab support TIFF?

If so export via TIFF, launch the GIMP or Photoshop and use either app to deal
with JPG.

If on Windows an excellent application dealing with various file formats is
IrfanView.

http://www.irfanview.com

Grab both portions of the app and your jpgs, tiffs, etc.. will be fully
compliant.

One should use the graphics format best suited for the number of unique colors
in the source file, as well as the one that produces the smallest output
without losing quality.

lyx /debian woody /editor-fonts :(

2004-04-29 Thread Bernd Mehnert
hello to all,

i study mathematics and enjoy using lyx. at our faculty lyx 1.3.3 has been
installed. the only problem is: when i start lyx, then , after
opening a document, there are the following messages in the xterm:

xset: bad font path element (#36), possible causes are:
Directory does not exist or has wrong permissions
Directory missing fonts.dir
Incorrect font server address or syntax
Unable to add font path.
No font matches request. Using 'fixed'.
Start LyX as 'lyx -dbg 515' to get more information.

LyX: Unknown X11 color DarkBlue for math
 Using black instead, sorry!
LyX: Unknown X11 color DarkRed for LaTeX text
 Using black instead, sorry!

clearly there has to be installed a font-package. at home i installed the
RPM-fonts. but at our faculty our webmaster wants (not without reason) a
solution for this using official debian woody packages. the editor cannot
display all math symbols now, for example the $mapsto$-arrow-symbol is
just written out as a word: xmapstof(x). is there a solution? thank you
for any answer.

lithuanian language (baltic)

2004-04-29 Thread Oleg
Hello,
I dont know where to ask about this. Im from Lithuania and I want to write in LyX in
lithuanian. Well, my TeX works with lithuanian already. I have found some instructions
how to make LyX work with LT language, but it doesnt work. Maybe this manual was
written
for older version. Im using LyX 1.3.3 with RedHat 8 and Mandrake 9.2. Maybe problem is
in screen fonts, well LyX writes in lithuanian, but in command field only, not in
document. So may you give me an advice? What i may try to do? To change something in
source and compile maybe?

i have found lithuanian.kmap and iso8859-13.def along with instructions and tried to
use
them, but...

Should i write to Developers list?

 thats all. bye:)

O.K.

Normally, LyX should automatically do these reruns. I suppose there is
another problem with the bibliography. Sometimes it helps to export the lyx
file to LaTex and try a "hand run": latex, bibtex, latex, latex.
At least when you have some familiarity with latex, the log will help you to
locate the problem. (Otherwise, send it here...)

I guess that png export is better than jpg export, as
matlab creates vector-like bitmaps, so that straight lines
are messed up in jpg.

My personal rule:
jpg for pictures
png for graphics when eps is not available (screenshots, ...)

How do I make convert to Roman letter page numbering to numerical page numbering?

2004-04-29 Thread Sung Nae Cho
Hello,

Here is the page order of my thesis:

title
abstract
acknowlegdment
table of content
list of figures
Chapter 1
Chapter 2
I am trying to have Roman Letter page numbering for "Title",
"Abstract", "Acknowledgment", "Table of Contents" , and "List of
Figures". Then from Chapter 1, Chapter 2, I would like to switch to
numerical page numbering starting with 1, 2, 3 , etc.

How do I do this?

I have used the recommendation from "Tips & Tricks" link at Lyx webpage,
i.e., in preamble

\pagenumbering{roman}
\let\myTOC\tableofcontents
\renewcommand\tableofcontents{%
\myTOC
\clearpage
\pagenumbering{arabic}
}
This however, makes page number of "List of Figures" to 1 and Chapters
start with 2, 3, ., etc.

Is there anyway I can make "list of Figures" page to have Roman Letter
pagenumber and Chapters to start with Arabic numbering 1, 2, 3... etc?

Thank you very much.

Yours sincerely,
Sung Nae Cho,
Thursday, Apr. 29, 2004.

you can use

\setcounter{page}{1} \pagenumbering{roman}

table of contents links

2004-04-29 Thread Dominique Buenzli
Hello !
I just started with lyx, so sorry if this is a stupid question...
I would love if my table of contents would be hyperlinked to the right
chapter/section/subsections on the final pdf file.

With TexShop (another LaTex software) I just used this command at the
beginning of my document: \usepackage{hyperref} and it would work.
How to do the same with lyx ?

Thanks a lot for your answer.

You will want to use the listings package for this.
