I am not aware of problems with accented characters in 1.4, but they should
be gone in 1.5 anyway. It would be nice if you could test that and file a
bug report if not.

 Some Questions:
 * Can I install LyX-1.5.0beta1 in parallel to LyX-1.3.7? (generating

Yes. All you have to do is to compile from source and use the
--with-version-suffix argument of the configure script, e.g.
--with-version-suffix=1.5. Then it will use a different personal
configuration directory, and the binary will be named lyx1.5.
If you don't use that argument then LyX 1.5 will make your old configuration
unusable for LyX 1.3.x.

 * Is there a converter from the LyX file format 1.3.7 to 1.5.0.
(Looking at them with vi there are some obvious differences...)

Yes. The converter is called lyx2lyx and used automatically, so you can
simply open your old files in 1.5. You can also export them in the old
format again, but that direction is not as complete as the conversion from
1.3 to 1.5.

 * Is Qt4 needed for LyX-1.5.0?

Yes.

How to use PSfrag within LyX?

2007-03-02 Thread Urtzi Jauregi
HI everybody,

I routinely use PSfrag to embed complex mathematical expressions in EPS
figures. I'd like to use it under LyX too, but I can't find a place in the
figure float dialogs to enter the tag-to-formula definitions PSfrag needs. So
I usually have to export my documento to LaTeX and work with the code by
hand. Not that I mind terribly, but I'd very much like to be able to produce
the whole document with a single program. Can I do this under LyX?

ERT insets would be OK, but I wonder if one can do it the LyX way, just with
the GUI options.

Cheers,

Re: Struggling with Cross-refs again

2007-03-02 Thread Richard Heck

The problem here is that your label is inside the subsection title. If
you move it into the body of the section---just put it at the beginning
of the first paragraph---all should be well. Works for me, anyway.

There's something in the manual about this suggesting it's been fixed.
But it's not fixed in my version. Maybe you should try grabbing the most
recent version of the hyperref bundle and installing that manually.

Here's what seems to be happening. If you look at the .aux file, you'll
see this:

\newlabel{sub:This-is-the}{{2.1}{1}{\label {sub:This-is-the}This is the
section I want to x-ref\relax }{}{}}

LaTeX thinks the label is part of the title, so when it substitutes the
title of the section for the occurrences of \nameref, the label gets
included. So you end up with \label{sub:This-is-the} three times, the
last of which is in section 3. And if you look at the .aux file on the
next run, you'll see \newlabel occurring an extra three times.

Inline graphics with Rweave/Sweave, OS X

2007-03-02 Thread Kevin Middleton

LyXers -

This may be more of an R question than a LyX question, but I thought
I would try lyx-users first.

Following the instructions on the wiki (http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/
LyxWithRThroughSweave), I successfully setup Rweave (with an small OS
X caveat, see below). Including R graphics as floats works fine, but
I can't figure out how to get graphics included inline. I don't even
know if this is possible. Using the Insert - Graphics dropdown
brings up a dialog box -- so nowhere to put the Rweave code.

I also tried putting \includegraphics in an ERT box with the sweave
code inside the {}, but it goes looking for a file called
label=fig1,fig=T,echo=F=plot(1:10)@. Is there some way to wrap
the Rweave code?

On a separate note, I'm running LyX 1.4.4 in OS X. Starting LyX from
the LyX.app bundle and then trying to view PDF generates the
following error: an error occurred whilst running Rweave
'testfile.nw'. However, if LyX is started from the command line with
/Applications/LyX.app/Contents/MacOS/lyx, then Rweave works fine. I
was going to add this to the LyxWithRThroughSweave wiki page as a
note. But could another OS X user confirm this behavior for me?

Thanks,

Hmm, good catch. I might be wrong, but as far as I can tell this is not
possible. By definition, noweb file must have in the first column of the

paragraph. But this will work only with ERT and not with scrap style, since that
produces its own paragraph.

Re: Struggling with Cross-refs again

The problem here is that your label is inside the subsection title. If
you move it into the body of the section---just put it at the beginning
of the first paragraph---all should be well. Works for me, anyway.

There's something in the manual about this suggesting it's been fixed.
But it's not fixed in my version. Maybe you should try grabbing the most
recent version of the hyperref bundle and installing that manually.

Here's what seems to be happening. If you look at the .aux file, you'll
see this:

\newlabel{sub:This-is-the}{{2.1}{1}{\label {sub:This-is-the}This is the
section I want to x-ref\relax }{}{}}

Thanks,
Kevin

LyX-1.4.4 for PPC Macs now available

2007-03-02 Thread Bennett Helm
Thanks to Anders Ekberg, we now have a version of LyX-1.4.4 for PPC
Macs that should work. The download link can be found at the LyX/Mac
wiki page here:

http://wiki.lyx.org/Mac/Mac

(The link there currently points to a server I have access to.
Sometime in the next few days it will appear on the official LyX
servers, at which time I will change the link on the wiki page.)

Please report any troubles with it to the list. Hopefully we won't
need another version!

Thanks for your patience.

Re: more paste problems in Lyx 1.5.0 beta 1

2007-03-02 Thread Marcelo Acuña
  Hello,
With opensuse 10.2 and kde 3.5 I have another
 paste
  problem.

  1) I took (with ctrl + x) a word for move it.
Then I put it (with ctrl + v) in other site.
Then I think that I put word in wrong site.
Then I delete this word with baskspace key.
I put cursor in other site, press ctrl + v and
  nothing appears.
When I press backspace key, buffer with word was
  deleted.

 Works here.

  2) I confirmed previous paste problem.
In a window I took (with crtl + c) an ERT (with a
  \setcounter command).
   Click in another window.
I put cursor in a title of chapter.
   I press ctrl + v.
   ERT appears correctly.
With mouse wheel I put cursor at the end of
 another
title of section or chapter and I press ctrl + v.
Appears a title of section instead ERT.

 This works here too.

I confirmed this two errors. Others applications work
without problems: Lyx 1.4.4, Lyx 1.3.7, etc.

Marcelo

Hmm, good catch. I might be wrong, but as far as I can tell this is not
possible. By definition, noweb file must have in the first column of the
file. Therefore you could only use inline graphics as the very first thing in a
paragraph. But this will work only with ERT and not with scrap style, since that
produces its own paragraph.

On a separate note, I'm running LyX 1.4.4 in OS X. Starting LyX from

I am not an OS X user, but I imagine that Rweave cries due to path problems.

this might do it:
./configure --with-qt-dir=/usr/share/qt4 --enable-optimization=-O3
--prefix=/usr/local --with-version-suffix=1.5.0b1

Read the INSTALL to get details on how to configure the flags for your purposes.
Or you may wish to do this in a chroot to be sure it behaves!

not sure

I believe so. When run, configure looked for this, and said "not found". And
when I installed qt4, it went perfectly.

You can also export them in the old
format again, but that direction is not as complete as the conversion from
1.3 to 1.5.

> * Is Qt4 needed for LyX-1.5.0?

Yes.

Are there known problems with bibtex and makeindex?

Using the same file with Lyx 1.4.4 - everything works fine to me.

If you look at the .aux file, you'll
see this:

\newlabel{sub:This-is-the}{{2.1}{1}{\label {sub:This-is-the}This is the
section I want to x-ref\relax }{}{}}

LaTeX thinks the label is part of the title, so when it substitutes the
title of the section for the occurrences of \nameref, the label gets
included. So you end up with "\label{sub:This-is-the}" three times, the
last of which is in section 3. And if you look at the .aux file on the
next run, you'll see \newlabel occurring an extra three times.

Richard

Stefano Franchi wrote:
Well, I am totally baffled by LyX and LaTeX management of cross

LaTeX again and the reference is changed to an erroneous value. I can
actually see this happening in real time if I keep TeXShop open: the
document is typeset correctly and then re-typeset with the wrong
value. I am enclosing a sample file LyX file below.
I suppose I must have misunderstood something very basic in LaTeX

Any advice is appreciated.
