Hello Willis,
There has been quite a bit of discussion on this topic in the archives,
but maybe you should tell us what OS you are using.

When you say "it doesn't seem to work for me" can you be a bit more
precise? How doesn't it work?

Cheers,
Alan

Converting Lyx doc to word

2010-07-08 Thread Willis Gwenzi
Hi all,

I am writing my thesis in Lyx 1.6, but my supervisors need a copy in word.
Is there a way I can use to convert the lyx document or pdf to a word
document without losing the formating and equations? I tried exporting to
HTML, but it doesn't seem to work for me.

Please help.

XYpic or other diagram tools

2010-07-08 Thread topspin1617

Hey, this is my first post here.

I'm using Lyx 1.6 and I want to draw a commutative diagram (abstract
algebra).

The question is: I'm not sure if I even have xypic; how to figure out if I
do or not; and, if I don't, where I can download it and which files go where
(I'm not a computer person, I have no idea how to set that up right).

I'm looking at the help for this in Lyx itself. I'm following the
instrucions, and when it's time to test the xypic out, it says to try the
code

\xymatrix{A\ar[r]&B}

Which should give something like

A-->B

But what happens is, whenever I hit the { after typing \xymatrix, the
\xymatrix disappears (is just replaced by a little box to type into). Help?

Richard,

You did give me a good indication. I tried to use IEEEtran.layout as a base,
and found that it was really a good start.

Thanks,
Kevin

by using LyX?

Hard to know. But I'd be surprised if this class was all that different from
others for which there are layout files, e.g., IEEE trans, or whatever. That
would give you a big head start.

is sets position to the paragraph you are editing (or jumping from).
so it gets back only if you didn't start to write something on the newly
scrolled position. the shortcut is "ctrl+<"
