file converter behaviour!

2011-01-13 Thread Sören Höckner
Hello!
recently i've post some complain about a wierd behaviour of lyx. I
supposed to convert a tikz-picture, which i,ve inserted as a graphic. My
intention was to convert that standalone document with the tikz-image to
a pdf an include that as graphic while processing the main document. So
there are no tikz mnports dependancies necessary for the main document.
But lyx always starts converting with tikz-eps and never tikz-pdf.
This is in my opinion a bug, since pdflatex uses epstopdf internally to
convert eps files. So i've steal some standard script and adopt it to
use it with the tikz-eps converter. I generate the pdf and also the pdf
of the tikz image. Lucky for me, pdflatex prefer the pdf before the png
and eps.
But is that behaviour of lyx on purpose. Or did I miss something.

PS: sure i can use the .lyx/external_template concept, but there are no
preview capabilities and the converter fits better, i thnink.

Italic textual Greek with Palatino (mathpazo)

2011-01-13 Thread Jim Oldfield
Hi everyone,

I'm trying to insert the text ΨDO into a LyX document (the first letter is
upper case Greek psi, the next two letters are Latin letters), which is the
standard abbreviation for pseudo-differential operator. By the way, PDO
won't cut it since this is already an abbreviation for partial differential
operator.

The problem is, I'm using Palatino i.e. \usepackage{mathpazo}, but the Greek
characters from Computer Modern are used. Much worse than this, for
non-default

shapes (like italic or bold) the default-shaped Computer Modern characters are
used! So in a theorem environment my Psi is upright when all surrounding text
is italic.

Clearly the relevant characters exist in Palatino, since they are used for \Psi
and \varPsi in math. I'd rather not resort to using these for a textual
character, so is there someone to make LaTeX know about the relevant fonts? At

the very least is there a way to make LaTeX use italic Computer Modern
substitutions instead of roman ones for italic characters?

Here are the relevant LaTeX warnings:
LaTeX Font Warning: Font shape `LGR/ppl/m/n' undefined
(Font) using `LGR/cmr/m/n' instead on input line 181.
LaTeX Font Warning: Font shape `LGR/ppl/m/it' undefined

lyx sessions management

2011-01-13 Thread xPol
I would like t be able to save session with label, as in firefox, so as to
be able to recover sessions at any time. I think that is not currently
possible, so i am wondering about lyx 2.0
Also, i would like to save session files in folders. A possibilty, in the
next future?

A snip of the file is attached.

The native support was tried (though it took me a moment, as your
support appears to be different that using framed itself. The normal
framed commands failed. Found LyX's version under insert.

That worked fine once I figured out how to adjust it to show up
properly. It overflowed on the right and had a large space on the left
inside part of the frame. I removed the quotation environment, set the
minipage's size to 85% of the margin, and centered it.

Thanks for that heads-up! Now my cross-references work too! :)

Yes, the idea is there. We just need someone to implement it.

A while back someone was actually starting on it, but .. well... it
didn't finish.

not for lyx 2.0. for other releases it depends whether there is somebody
intersted
in implementing it.

it somewhat coincides with project file feature request already in bugzilla.

Apparently, nesting framed into quote doesn't work. It works vice versa
(nesting quote into framed). I don't think this is a LyX problem, or anything
that can be prevented in LyX, but rather a bug or deficiency of the framed
package.

file converter behaviour!

But lyx always starts converting with tikz->eps and never tikz->pdf.
This is in my opinion a bug, since pdflatex uses epstopdf internally to
convert eps files. So i've steal some standard script and adopt it to
use it with the tikz->eps converter.

Where to change dvi previewer?

2011-01-13 Thread Anthony Campbell
At present, lyx is using evince to preview files as dvi. This is
producing gibberish (probably after a recent upgrade of evince).

If I remove evince from my system temporarily, lyx uses xpdf and
everything is fine. But I need evince for another purpose.

I can't see anywhere in Prefences/converters where the viewer is being
set. Is it possible to change this?

That has an entry for Viewer, which is currently blank. But putting
"xpdf" or "/usr/bin/xpdf" doesn't make any difference, even after doing
reconfigure and restart.

Correction - it makes lyx use Adobe Acrobat to view pdf files, which is
even worse!

Also I assume you mean xdvi (for DVI), not xpdf, which is a PDF viewer.

Yes, should be xdvi. And it's now working - I was putting it in Lyx
Preview, but in fact it seems to be DVI that needs it.

Thanks, Jurgen.

Italic textual Greek with Palatino (mathpazo)

2011-01-13 Thread Jim Oldfield
Hi everyone,

I'm trying to insert the text "ΨDO" into a LyX document (the first letter is
upper case Greek psi, the next two letters are Latin letters), which is the
standard abbreviation for "pseudo-differential operator". By the way, "PDO"
won't cut it since this is already an abbreviation for "partial differential
operator".

(Font) using `LGR/ppl/m/n' instead on input line 186.

Thanks in advance for any help,
Jim
