The code works for me in the standard book environment. However for book it might be a good idea to change the \clearpage to \cleardoublepage to be certain that it does not change the floats. Why it does not work for you is difficult to know? I would suggest that you make a copy of your book and remove all the hand painting and special stuff and see if you can get the index to work. Hi Clive, I am going to suggest (again) the package idxlayout. I am worried about weird interaction between packages as much as you, but I found out a good package is often safer that adding several lines of latex code in the preamble (as you found out). Here is what I use for the index in my latest book project, the options are self-explanatory: \usepackage[indentunit=15 pt,% itemlayout=relhang,% justific=RaggedRight,% columnsep=27 pt, unbalanced=false, this line produces the balanced columns initsep=13pt plus 5pt minus 3pt]{idxlayout} Cheers, Stefano
Zombie processes when viewing pdf.
Hi there. I've noticed that whilst running LyX and previewing a .pdf file on my (default) viewer evince, that LyX will create zombie processes of evince. Re: How! -- Index with Balanced Columns
Dear Lyxers I am using Lyx 1.6.7, Book Class, on openSUSE 11.1. I want to convert the standard two-column Index behavior to achieve balanced columns on the last Index page.( that is, from a single column down the left-hand side of the page with an empty column the right-hand side, to two columns of equal length reaching approxmimately half-way down the page). I have searched and found the following advice and code. Load the multicol package. \usepackage{multicol} Enter code in ERT just before the Index label %change the index environment to achieve balanced columns on last page \let\orgtheindex\theindex \let\orgendtheindex\endtheindex \def\theindex{% \def\twocolumn{\begin{multicols}{2}}% \def\onecolumn{}% \clearpage \orgtheindex } \def\endtheindex{% \end{multicols}% \orgendtheindex } This code is pasted from the Internet but not for the Lyx Book Class; although the code appears in several places in almost indentical form. It does not throw up an error, not does it have any effect on the Index; but it does mess up the following page by moving a float picture. So there is some interaction, but not that desired. Re: How! -- Index with Balanced Columns
This happens every tiem the file is previewed. It will also list a process as being a zombie even though that instance of evince is still operating normally to all intents and purposes. I'm running LyX 2.0.0 beta 4, on Ubuntu Karmic. Is there any further information you wish me to supply?

Re: problem to import LaTex document class for conf. paper
Hi all, I think I solved my problem. It seem that the errors occur only if I use Lyx style drop-down list for title, author, address. So, I used Latex command for those style and no errors at all. thanks all cheers Yusof
table vertical alignment
i cannot access (it is inactive) the option for align top, bottom, middle, in my lyx file. its not allowing to be selected. (see myfile.lyx, for this) i have another users file, on my PC, and that allows in the table cell for vertical alignment (otheruser.lyx) (also, how does this person in mathinline formula have ordinary text, like its not blue colour, but still within the inline thing) please reply at; baiguzair[at]gmail.com myfile.lyx Description: Binary data otheruser.lyx Description: Binary data

Error "file ended while scanning use of \@@BOOKMARK" ?
Hi list, (using Lyx 1.6.10 with book(KOMA-script)) I am counting down days before submitting... (it's really a deadline I can't miss to deliver my work) and I used to compile my koma-script-based document in draft mode. Now, I try to compile it correctly and it insist returning this error: "file ended while scanning use of \@@BOOKMARK". Is it in the .bib file maybe? I've checked all strange names (non utf8 characters) and have formatted them using, for example {\'a} and {\=a} as well as {\'e} (all this I did in kbib, which I like a lot). How can I clean the .bib file "automatically"? Is there any other smart way to avoid this? Instead of bibtex, use anything else, but fast and simple? Or is this \@@BOOKMARK error not related with the bibliography entries? In fact, I have tried changing the graphics driver (Document class / Graphics driver) and requesting to view the output as PDF (ps2pdf, dvipdfm, pdflatex), DVI and Postscript; even a combination of these techniques do not solve the problem. I also tried removing and reinstalling package psnfs which holds the files upzd.fd and upsy.fd . I am running Microsoft Windows XP with MikTex 2.9.3478 and LyX 1.6.8 (for Windows). The only solution I have found, for the moment, is to replace the file pifont.sty with courier.sty. I think replace the file with any other working font should work. The exact error I get with the standard pifont.sty is the following (it is the same as the topic creator): Package: powerdot-default 2005/12/10 v1.4 default style (HA) ("C:\Documents and Settings\rach103\Apps\Miktex\tex\latex\psnfss\pifont.sty" Package: pifont 2005/04/12 PSNFSS-v9.2a Pi font support (SPQR) LaTeX Font Info:Try loading font information for U+pzd on input line 63. I came across the same code on the Internet but with an extra final line which is {\relax}. The explanation of this code was not altogether clear, so I inserted it to find out -- then everything worked perfectly. The consequences of my ignorance may become apparent when the book is printed -- I'll wait and see. > Hi Clive, > > I am going to suggest (again) the package idxlayout. Thanks for you help and concern, Well I'm in full agreement here, I have now used two packages that came with Lyx 1.6.7 so I'm comfortable using them. They are tocloft and multicol, strangely, I have idxlayout in my notes as the next package to try if multicol did not work. So, for the time being I shall trust multicol, as I have finished my layout of the book internals. Thanks again. Kind Regards, -- Clive Libotte, IEng. MInstMC.
