We are proud to announce the release of LyX 2.1.1. This is the first
maintenance release in the 2.1.x series.

LyX is a document processor that encourages an approach to writing based
on the structure of your documents and not simply their appearance. It is
released under a Free and Open Source Software license.

You can download LyX 2.1.1 from http://www.lyx.org/Download/.

LyX 2.1.1 is the result of on-going efforts to make our stable version
even more reliable and stable. We have fixed a number of bugs and made
a number of improvements. These are detailed below. We strongly encourage
all LyX users to upgrade to this version.

Several users have reported seemingly random crashes with 2.1.0, sometimes
resulting in dataloss. These crashes appear to happen when the user attempts
to save a file, and the dataloss occurs because the original LyX file is
over-
written by a corrupt file that then cannot be opened. The seemingly random
crashes, we believe, are due to auto-save, which is enabled or disabled in
Tools Preferences Document Handling Backup documents every...minutes.

Unfortunately, we have been unable to find the cause of this bug, though all
known reports seem to involve documents that contain tables, and the corrupt
file always ends with: \begin_inset Tabular.

To prevent dataloss, we have changed the way LyX saves files if the user
has not enabled backups. LyX now renames the existing file before
attempting to save the new one (in effect, making a temporary backup).
Then, if the save fails, the original file can be restored.

If you think you have found a bug in LyX 2.1.1, either e-mail the LyX
developers' mailing list (lyx-devel at lists.lyx.org) or open a bug
report at http://www.lyx.org/trac/wiki/BugTrackerHome.

If you have trouble using LyX or have a question, consult the
documentation that comes with LyX and the LyX wiki, which lives at
http://wiki.lyx.org/. If you can't find the answer there, e-mail the LyX
users' list (lyx-users at lists.lyx.org).

We hope you enjoy using LyX 2.1.1.

Problem with spell checker

2014-07-17 Thread Fabio Fiorelli

Hello everyone
I'm having a problem with the spell-checker. I'm running a computer with
CentOS 6.5 installed, and I installed Lyx 2.1. However when I go in the
settings, the spell-checker option is greyed out and cannot be activated.
The strange thing is that not only a spell-checker was already installed
(hunspell from LibreOffice), but I also attempted reinstalling after
updating hunspell to the latest version with all the available
dictionaries installed.

Anyone else had this problem?
Many thanks

Hi Fabio,

LyX needs to be compiled with spellchecker support enabled (I assume
this requires the devel libraries to link against). If you are
compiling with CMake, try
-DLYX_HUNSPELL=ON -DLYX_ENCHANT=ON
for both Hunspell and Enchant.

Hi Fabio,

It was incorrect for me to say that you have to explicitly enable the
spellchecking libraries. My guess now is that you are missing the
development libraries to link against (e.g. on Ubuntu you need
libhunspell-dev installed).

Best,

Scott

Maybe the problem is you have to specify the path to the hunspell

Hi Jean Marc. There seem to be no additional flags required.
Configuration
  Host type:i686-pc-linux-gnu
  Special build flags: build=release use-hunspell
  C++ Compiler: g++ (4.4.7)
  C++ Compiler LyX flags:
  C++ Compiler flags:-O2
  Linker flags:
  Linker user flags:
  Qt 4 Frontend:
  Qt 4 version:4.6.2
  Packaging:posix
  LyX binary dir: /usr/local/bin
  LyX files dir:/usr/local/share/lyx

In fact I tested it right now in another virtual machine.
Lyx 2.1.1 installs correctly with access to hunspell without any further
configuration, while Lyx 2.1 doesn't.

Should I go forward? Thank you for your understanding.

Strange. What version of Ubuntu? Did you install `lyx` (NOT `lyx1.6`
or `lyx2.0`)? From the PPA? On running `lyx` (do this from from a

If you have trouble using LyX or have a question, consult the
documentation that comes with LyX and the LyX wiki, which lives at

users' list (lyx-users at lists.lyx.org).

We hope you enjoy using LyX 2.1.1.

Problem with spell checker

2014-07-17 Thread Fabio Fiorelli

Hello everyone
I'm having a problem with the spell-checker. I'm running a computer with
CentOS 6.5 installed, and I installed Lyx 2.1. However when I go in the
settings, the spell-checker option is greyed out and cannot be activated.
The strange thing is that not only a spell-checker was already installed
(hunspell from LibreOffice), but I also attempted reinstalling after
updating hunspell to the latest version with all the available
dictionaries installed.

Anyone else had this problem?
Many thanks

Hi Fabio,

LyX needs to be compiled with spellchecker support enabled (I assume
this requires the devel libraries to link against). If you are
compiling with CMake, try
-DLYX_HUNSPELL=ON -DLYX_ENCHANT=ON
for both Hunspell and Enchant.

Best,

Scott

The strange thing is that not only a spell-checker was already installed

 Anyone else had this problem?

 Hi Fabio,

LyX needs to be compiled with spellchecker support enabled (I assume
this requires the devel libraries to link against). If you are
 compiling with CMake, try
 -DLYX_HUNSPELL=ON -DLYX_ENCHANT=ON
 for both Hunspell and Enchant.

Hi Fabio,

It was incorrect for me to say that you have to explicitly enable the
spellchecking libraries. My guess now is that you are missing the
development libraries to link against (e.g. on Ubuntu you need
libhunspell-dev installed).

Best,

Scott

Hi Fabio, please respond to the list.

Looks like you're using autotools, which I don't know much about (but
which is more common so people on the list will know).
Maybe the problem is you have to specify the path to the hunspell

Hi Jean Marc. There seem to be no additional flags required.

The seemingly random
crashes, we believe, are due to auto-save, which is enabled or disabled in
Tools> Preferences> Document Handling > "Backup documents every...minutes".

If you think you have found a bug in LyX 2.1.1, either e-mail the LyX
developers' mailing list (lyx-devel lists.lyx.org) or open a bug
report at http://www.lyx.org/trac/wiki/BugTrackerHome.

If you have trouble using LyX or have a question, consult the
documentation that comes with LyX and the LyX wiki, which lives at
http://wiki.lyx.org/. If you can't find the answer there, e-mail the LyX
users' list (lyx-users at lists.lyx.org).

We hope you enjoy using LyX 2.1.1.

version, not from the new 2.1.1. Yes, from the ppa (perhaps I did a
mistake).

These are the commands I used (as su)
add-apt-repository ppa:lyx-devel/release
sudo apt-get update
cp /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list.bak
nano /etc/apt/sources.list
here I added the two lines with the deb stuff:

## see https://launchpad.net/~lyx-devel/+archive/ubuntu/release
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/lyx-devel/release/ubuntu trusty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/lyx-devel/release/ubuntu trusty main

Strange. What version of Ubuntu? Did you install `lyx` (NOT `lyx1.6`
or `lyx2.0`)? From the PPA? On running `lyx` (do this from from a
terminal) you should get version 2.1.1.

The seemingly random
crashes, we believe, are due to auto-save, which is enabled or disabled in
Tools> Preferences> Document Handling > "Backup documents every...minutes".

If you think you have found a bug in LyX 2.1.1, either e-mail the LyX
developers' mailing list (lyx-devel lists.lyx.org) or open a bug
report at http://www.lyx.org/trac/wiki/BugTrackerHome.

The LyX team.

Problem with spell checker

2014-07-17 Thread Fabio Fiorelli

Hello everyone
I'm having a problem with the spell-checker. I'm running a computer with
CentOS 6.5 installed, and I installed Lyx 2.1. However when I go in the
settings, the spell-checker option is greyed out and cannot be activated.
The strange thing is that not only a spell-checker was already installed
(hunspell from LibreOffice), but I also attempted reinstalling after
updating hunspell to the latest version with all the available
dictionaries installed.

Anyone else had this problem?
Many thanks

Hi Fabio,

LyX needs to be compiled with spellchecker support enabled (I assume
this requires the devel libraries to link against). If you are
compiling with CMake, try
-DLYX_HUNSPELL=ON -DLYX_ENCHANT=ON
for both Hunspell and Enchant.

Best,

Scott

Maybe the problem is you have to specify the path to the hunspell
libraries in Tools > Preferences > Paths?

So, what was the message that you got at the end of compilation (the
recapitulation of settings)?

You should not need to add anything to the make commend line.

Sorry, I thought I had replied to the list.
I tried that a long time ago, and unfortunately those sections are

Hi Jean Marc. There seem to be no additional flags required.
Configuration
  Host type:i686-pc-linux-gnu
  Special build flags: build=release use-hunspell
  C++ Compiler: g++ (4.4.7)
  C++ Compiler LyX flags:
  C++ Compiler flags:-O2
  Linker flags:
  Linker user flags:
  Qt 4 Frontend:
  Qt 4 version:4.6.2
  Packaging:posix
  LyX binary dir: /usr/local/bin
  LyX files dir:/usr/local/share/lyx

In fact I tested it right now in another virtual machine.
Lyx 2.1.1 installs correctly with access to hunspell without any further
configuration, while Lyx 2.1 doesn't.

Should I go forward? Thank you for your understanding.

It is very weird... So USE_HUNSPELL is defined in config.h (in build

If so, I wonder why the entry is greyed out. Could you provide a screenshot?
