The log file look indeed similar - but sudo isn’t appropriate here.
The configuration run checks the availability of system components
for ordinary users, i.e. for you.

ATM, I have no idea why the module detection stops at algorithm2e.module.
This is the problem, IMO.

Is your LyX installation complete? The directory
/Applications/LyX.app/Contents/Resources/layouts should contain 231 files.
$ ls /Applications/LyX.app/Contents/Resources/layouts|wc
 231 2313964
$ ls -1R /Applications/LyX.app/Contents/Resources|wc
42373917   76461
The complete tree has 4237 items.

To check another thing: there is an automatic upgrade in configure run.
Perhaps it copies some problematic contents from your 2.2 installation.
To circumvent this you may try these commands (no sudo please):
$ mkdir /tmp/LyX
$ cd /tmp/LyX
$ python -tt /Applications/LyX.app/Contents/Resources/configure.py
--binary-dir=/Applications/LyX.app/Contents/MacOS/

After your configure operation in /tmp/LyX you’ll probably have the same
log file as before. I’d like to know where the contents of /tmp/LyX is
different to mine:
$ ls -ltr /tmp/LyX
total 744

Sorry, I forgot to give you the advise to work in a temporary directory last
time.
I’m afraid you have to cleanup the working directory you’ve used for your
attempt
to run LyX configure script (your home directory?).

There are the following directories:
bind clipart doc examples images kbd layouts scripts templates ui
and some list files.

I sudo-ed your command - it ran through (logfile  attached);
lyx reacts the same as before.

Dear Stephan, dear Riki,

I did a new install of 2.3.3 startet Lyx - no error, except the minimal
functionality etc (asking reconfigure) - attached find the configure log file -
I renamed it (only for saving it), in case I test a bit more.
Then I tried to open a template (letter with head/address etc; attached also) -
and then all the errors reappeared:

This limitation is lifted in LuaTeX, so compiling with LuaTeX instead of
pdfTeX is a possible solution.

In principle, LuaTeX works fine with traditional TeX fonts and LuX supports
this well.

However, some 3rd party packages check for the TeX engine
(pdftex/xetex/luatex) and assume Unicode-encoded "non-TeX fonts" are used
with the latter two. This may lead to errors in complex documents.
