I don't think a new PC is needed. Why not pick up a used PC and put a linux OS on it? That's what I have done for years. Lyx works fine. However, LyX does far more than I need. So I often think about helping develop a "bullet-proof" LyX-basic. That is, I can show you everything that I can do beautifully, and we progressively drop stuff that I — and most others, like STEM students and teachers — will never need. Of course, that might help me stay with Mac, at the same time bringing more Macs to LyX … But Scott, as I think further. Why don’t I — to put it simply — just buy a PC? And more happily step up to 15 hours per day (occasionally) beginning tomorrow? That’s what you’d do, right?
