Re: Where are more templates?

2000-07-25 Thread C Y

Do you know where there's some good documentation on how to make templates?
What the standards are and whatnot? Also, what kind are needed? I might be
able to do one or two if I can figure it out, but they would be for things
like homework and school reports. (What I do, in other words :-) Would
that be of use?

I tried getting folks to send in more templates, but only a couple were
submitted.

If you find other useful templates, send them my way too so I can put
them on ftp.sylvan.com/pub/lyx/templates

I'd second this suggestion. It's possible to configure pdflatex on
the export-custom menu, but we already preconfigure an envelope
printing script into that menu, so it would be handy if PDF output
were a regular menu option for output, with lyxrc configuration
options like those offered for html.

Thirded. :-) PDF is a pretty universal way of sending formatted documents
to
people; regardless of operating system they can easily install a reader if
they don't already have one. Also, LyX does produce (indirectly) very nice
PDF assuming the fonts problem is resolved, but the PDF contents generation
is a good idea too. xdvi is a bit ugly - the rendering is nice enough, but
the UI is 'orrid.

What the heck. I'll fourth it. Has anyone done a study to see what the
most efficient way to produce pdf is? (I.e. not just found A way to do it,
but tried lots of them to see which gives the smallest file size, etc.) My
way is to export to tex and then use pdflatex, converting any graphics with
ps2pdf first. I've seen several other ways described. Any ideas on how to
evaluate them?

use
the list of files at the bottom of the file menu, it never renders the
eps

indicate a flaw in the way Lyx opens documents from the recent list in
the
File menu. I watched the messages at the bottom of the main window as
it
loaded the document and the only difference I saw was that the open from
recent list didn't show some buffer dialogues that the File-Open
loading
did show. Has anyone else run into this?

I observe one thing. When my document contains eps images
it takes a certain time to render it. So, if I don't wait
the end of the rendering process before starting working,
images are not shown. During this time, the cursor are a
strange blinking behaviour.

Of course, If I wait that the cursor blinks regularly,
all eps images are well shown.

I think it's what you've observed, isn't it ?

Thy

Could be, but the impression I got from watching it load was that it just
made no effort to render the eps images at all. I'll try it again and see
if I can reproduce the behavior you describe, but normally the time it takes
to render these images is minimal. (Just simple x-y plots, no color or
anything.) When I load it using the File - Open menu, as opposed to the
recent files list, it renders them rapidly without trouble. (Which version
are you using? I'm on 1.1.5)

Printing/Export problem

2000-03-04 Thread C Y

Hi. I'm having trouble getting Lyx to export more than the first page to
any format at all. Some older documents I have written don't seem to have
any problems, but I'll be writing a new document in Lyx and suddenly I can't
seem to get it to do anything beyond exporting the first page. I opened an
older document and previewed it in DVI, and then tried the new file in DVI
again, and it worked. Is anyone else having this problem or do I just have
something wrong with my setup on this machine?

(I'll try to be more specific on what libraries I'm running if anyone knows
which ones would be related to this. My system is running Redhat 6.1. I
originally had Lyx 1.0.4, upgraded to 1.1.4fix1, and am still having the
same problem. Any ideas would be appreciated.)
