Apparently, yes. This seems like a bug. In fact, from what I can
tell, font-ital never does anything in the current code.

I'm using font-emph for now, as you suggested.

But I'm not sure whether font-ital and font-emph have the same
meaning. It doesn't matter to me since both font styles result in the
text being set in the same italic font when using pdflatex output, but
maybe for other output formats different fonts are used.

font-emph produces emphasis, whatever the existing font. Exactly what it
does is determined by LaTeX. So emphasizing something emphasized makes
sense. font-ital just turns on italics. You can italicize what's already
italicized.

Right, my point just was that for abbreviations like "e.g." or "i.e.",
an italic font would make more sense than to emphasize these
abbreviations since they don't have to be emphasized imho. Anyway, maybe
font-ital will be implemented (realized) in a future LyX release,
font-emph works for now...

Yes, it should be. You can do it inside your bind file for now. You'll
need to use something like:
command-sequence font-emph; self-insert i.e.; font-emph;
space-insert normal

Modify as required.

Helper function/shortcut

2008-11-24 Thread Frank Grimm

Hi,

I'm looking for a way to insert (pre-formatted) text into a LyX document
using a keyboard shortcut.

For example, I'd like to insert "i.e." when pressing a certain key
combination. I tried to use the LyX function "self-insert" with the
argument "i.e.", but with LyX 1.6 I only got the error message: "Can not
insert shortcut to the list".

Is there any way to add pre-formatted text to a LyX document? For
example, when inserting "i.e." with the shortcut described above, I'd
like to set "i.e." in an italic style and with a thin space between the
two characters. Is this possible with LyX 1.6?

Thanks,
Frank

The bugzilla request ID is 5471
Bugzilla entry can be found at http://bugzilla.lyx.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5471

OK, will submit a request.

OK, thanks for the info. Could you please point me to that entry?

Right, both topics are only slightly related. But I thought that
limiting the width and height of the document window would at least
allow for raising the document's last line from the window's bottom ...

Thank you

Scroll below last text line in document window

2008-11-09 Thread Frank Grimm

Hello List!

With Lyx 1.6 it's possible to set the width of the document (text)
window when working in full-screen mode. It is possible to do this in
'normal' (not full-screen) mode?

I'm asking because when working on a Lyx document the bottom of the
document is always on the bottom of the Lyx window (when the document's
height exceeds the heigh of the Lyx window). I find this a bit annoying.
Thus, I think it would be cool if one could scroll below the end of the
document (probably until the last line hits the top of the document window).

Thanks,
Frank

You can do this, but I think you have to set the width of the cell
explicitly

Thanks, after setting the column width it worked fine :-)
