copy paste problem with klipper

2002-12-16 Thread Peer Frank
Hi LyXers,

have just installed SuSE 8.1 and KDE 3.0.5.
Any copy and paste action makes Lyx (1.2.1) crash when klipper is running in
the taskbar.
This is resolved when klipper is stopped with right klick/quit. (not disabled)
i have no more details for the moment, maybe klipper needs some settings
tweeking for better cooperation with LyX.

The versions:
LyX: 1.2.1
Qt: 3.0.5
KDE: 3.0.5
Klipper: v0.9.2
Linux: 2.4.19-4GB
SuSE: 8.1

Bye

Re: graphics conversion for preview

2002-11-27 Thread Peer Frank
It is strange, same version - different behavior. Did I miss a switch?
The bug was for TIF and XFIG files only ?
My graphics files that are converted on each update are jpg's and
png's - ps files are not converted. A tmp dir is created and kept
after each LyX launch and the converted eps files are written there
into the dir lyx_tmpbuf0. Everything stays there until they are
removed after exiting LyX.

So I still get all my jpg's and png's converted for each preview which
of course takes very much longer than the required LaTeX run alone.

paper custom size zero margin dissapears

2002-09-02 Thread Peer Frank

using LyX 1.2.1 (Aug 20)

Hi folks,

setting zero margins (e.g. top) for the document paper layout seem to
vanish. It works once, but when the dialog is closed and reopened the
entries have vanished and the 0 value is not used anymore and a
default instead.

A bug ?

A workaround is to set a small non zero margin.

suggestion for style selector

2002-07-06 Thread Peer FRANK

Hi Lyx !

Little annoying detail:
The style selector where one chooses standard, itemize, section etc.
has more entries than the length of the list. Often one has to scroll
prior to be able to choose the style. IMHO I think the list could be
made long enough to generally avoid scrolling and still fit in the
window.

Besides that work is just great fun with LyX

usepackage bookman for Euro

Hi Lyxers:

I'm trying to use the Euro symbol, the nice one.

So I put \usepackage{eurofont} and \usepackage{bookman} into the

Usage of \euro produces the attached error message.

Bookman font is available in Layout/document/fonts.
And many *tfm fonts are in /usr/share/texmf/fonts/tfm/adobe/bookman/ .

Thanx in advance

long view of digest messages with kmail

Hi:

Not really a LyX question, but anyway:

I did not get kmail to display the messages of the daily digest, even with
smart or inlined attachments activated, only the icons and message number are
listed and have to be klicked, very annoying because one has to memorize the
message number to klick open each subject of interest one by one (while
Netscape messenger lists all messages in full length and detail).

Did anybody find a solution for this ?

Thanks

Inserting table floats with the caption below the table does not work as in

insert - floats - table floats
then write mycaptiontext, then insert table between Table: and
mycaptiontext

produces the following error:

Paragraph ended before \@caption was complete.
\end{tabular} mycaptiontext} ...

My mistake or a bug ?

The idea of prefix is to do

Absolutely sure.

 Reading '/Perfo/peer/.lyx/lyxrc.defaults'...

you are right: ~./lyx is generated during the first launch of LyX if no
~.lyx is there. Again: ~.lyx removed, LyX started, .lyx (and its files)
generated,
LyX crashes with those messages:

I am surprised that it eventually crashes, anyway.
So am I ...
As you see i'm not installing in usr/local but in my user dir. Could
that be an explanation for some path confusion and not finding the icons
?

Now i found that the new ~./lyx/lyxrc.default is exactly the same as the
one generated by lyx_1.1.5fix2. Is that OK ?

I also tried with the lyxrc.default that is contained in the
~/lyx-1.1.6/lib dir, this too could not be read.

Have there been changes in the file format of lyxrc.default ?

I have the feeling that it might be rather a read (source, compiler ?)
than a file format or location problem (i use gcc version 2.95.1).

Are you sure you removed your former ~/.lyx directory?? Assuming your

Absolutely sure.

 Found lyxrc.defaults in /Perfo/peer/.lyx/lyxrc.defaults

you are right: ~./lyx is generated during the first launch of LyX if no

generated,

I am surprised that it eventually crashes, anyway.

As you see i'm not installing in usr/local but in my user dir. Could
that be an explanation for some path confusion and not finding the icons

Now i found that the new ~./lyx/lyxrc.default is exactly the same as the

/usr/local/share, but seemed to use the "old" /usr/local/share/lyx dir

May be I missed the point ( and lost my "old" LyX binary). Anyway,
renaming my old /usr/local/share/lyx directory solved the problem.

 Hope this could help you.

P.S. suggestion : Is it possible to suggest, in the INSTALL file, a
COMPLETE procedure to install concurent versions of LyX (e.g. to test a
new release before switching). This could help stupid users (like me) :-)

LyX 1.1.6. does not launch on OSF

2001-01-18 Thread Peer Frank

Hi LyXers !

still/again trying to get the thing going. LyX is still unable to start
(with the former version ~./lyx dir removed); is any other OSF user more
lucky ?

Now i tried the debug option, maybe this shows an obvious reason that
jumps into the eye of some LyXexpert.

Idea: unlike for the former versions installation is it perhaps also
neccessary to remove files in the ~/tex/share/lyx dir that might be
forgotten my the installation script ?

LyX-1.1.6 compile OK, now first launch problem on OSF

2001-01-16 Thread Peer Frank

Hi LyXers !

Allen's hint was the solution to the compiling problem. The make version
(that -apparently- worked fine for former releases) was not the right
one. Now with

GNU Make version 3.74 and
gcc version 2.95.1 19990816 (release)

but also using --with-included-string with ./configure, the compilation
was successfull.

BUT:
Now it seems unable to read the ~/.lyx/lyxrc.defaults it just created
before during the first run (i removed the former version ~/.lyx
directory).

???
I also tried to copy the lyxrc* files from ~/lyx-1.1.6/lib to the new
~./lyx directory, did not help. With no ~/.lyx directory LyX should run
and create this dir and create the files in it, and lyxrc will be
written later by selecting "preferences" (if one could - after a short
welcome LyX dies), right ?

Bye
Peer

PS: at least it runs under Linux: GREAT !

LyX-1.1.6 compile problem on OSF

2001-01-14 Thread Peer Frank

Hi everybody !

unlike for all the previous releases i'm unable to compile LyX-1.1.6
today:

===
Platform configuration:
===
DEC alphaev56 with OSF1 V4.0e

==
Some configure messages that might be of interest:
but those were also present for the former LyX releases
and they compiled OK.
==

checking for working aclocal... missing
checking for working autoconf... missing
checking for working automake... missing
checking for working autoheader... missing
checking for working makeinfo... found

Final configure messages:

=== The following minor problems have been detected by configure.
=== Please check the messages below before running 'make'.
=== (see the section 'Problems' in the INSTALL file)

== LyX should work ok with version 0.89.0 of xforms, but
it is an unproven version and might still have some bugs. If you
have problems, please use version 0.88 instead.

Configuration of LyX was successful.
Type 'make' to compile the program,
and then 'make install' to install it.

make messages:

Making all in sigc++
Make: Don't know how to make ./macros/acconfig.h.m4. Stop.
*** Exit 1
Stop.

The Makefile is attached.

Can somebody help ?
I'm impatiently looking forward to have this new version running :-)

A very nice feature seen on Papyrus/TOS (10 years ago) would also be
very nice in LyX:

to be able to change the first letter of a word from minuscule to
Capital (and vice versa) via some accelerator key.
