-Classic UI toolbars

2007-08-21 Thread alain . didierjean
I like Classic UI better than Default and would use it if only... I could find a
way to modify toolbars showing from it. (Hope my poor english is clear enough
guys). A few questions:
1) Is there a way to choose which toolbars show and which don't from Classic UI
?
2) After a quick look, I couldn't figure out how to add this feature as a menu
item in Classic UI. Anybody can help ?
3) My personal feeling is such a feature belongs to Preferences. Am I wrong ?
Thanks for the help,

PS: I know it's been said before, never mind: USING LYX 1.5.1 is GREAT.
Thanks to the developers.

If you look in ~/.lyx/ui there used to be files that listed the menu
contents. For some reason on my installation of 1.5.1, that directory is
empty. So I, too, would like to know to where those files have been moved.

Copy lyx/Resources/ui/classic.ui to the ui folder under your home
directory and edit it. At the bottom you'll see a Toolbars section that
lists the toolbars in the format name on|off|auto, location.
The on and off options, and the location, should be self-explanatory.
The auto setting means on if the cursor is in a math inset (math
toolbar) or table (table toolbar), off otherwise.

If you mean add the option to select toolbars, enter the following in
your hacked copy of classic.ui, within whichever menu (edit, view, ...)
you like: Submenu Toolbars|b toolbars. (Make sure the hot key 'b'
is not in use within that menu. Then, outside that menu (i.e., after
the End line), enter the following:

Menu toolbars
  Toolbars
End

3) My personal feeling is such a feature belongs to Preferences. Am I
wrong ?

The preferences menu is a programmed dialog that you cannot edit. You
can put the toolbar selection anywhere you like. In the default UI,
it's under View, but you might want it under Edit (near Preferences).

That's the user's ui folder. AFAIK, LyX only installs ui files, bind
files etc. under the LyX installation root. You have to copy them to
the user's folder if you want to hack them.
