Okay, maybe I did not make my situation clear enough: I have *never* saved the document anywhere before. So there is no specific folder for it. Daniel Ok, now I understand, but can not offer more advice. I always create a save path for a new document before writing anything. Sorry, Gordon.

So I guess it goes to some default directory. But I don't remember which it is. Maybe the "Temporary directory"? Is it to be found in one of those "lyx_tmpdir.aACBCqm16796" folders in that directory? Maybe if a path is empty and there is a default it should show the default directory in grayish text?

I am on Windows 7. Maybe it would be nice to list that path somewhere in LyX. Maybe in the About dialog together with the library and user directory?
