Re: LyX 1.4.1 will not launch under XP without a network connection.
Many thanks to Stephen & Paul. Following your suggestion, I tried unmapping J: _before_ disconnecting from the LAN, and found that LyX 1.4.1 launched just fine. In my case, J: is a rarely-used network drive, so I unchecked "reconnect at logon" and will take pains to disconnect it after use in the future. The tip re/ modifying lyx.bat is also much appreciated.

It says, in part: "Exception caught: boost::filesystem::is_directory: "J:MSYS\home\Angus\lyx\14x\build\installprefix\Resources\locale" The network location cannot be reached." I followed the instructions on the Wiki for adding C:\MSYS\1.0\bin\ to my path, then running "sh configure" in the LyX141/Resources directory. No joy. Has anyone else seen this problem? Know how to fix it? Thanks! Angus created the configure script and that is a directory on his system. Most people don't have J: drives. But a few who do have reported a similar error. A temporary solution is to rename your J: directory or device to another letter. I've seen another solution if that one is inconvenient, but don't recall it at the moment and I think is takes more work. Is there a J: drive available when you are network connected? A relatively painless work-around: open a DOS window and type 'subst J: C:\' at the command prompt (no quotes). When you're done with LyX, use 'subst J: /D' to undo this. In the LyX bin directory, there's a batch file named lyx.bat. You can copy the file, rename it something like lyx_no_net.bat, add the first subst command as line two (under '@echo off') and the second subst command as the last line (after 'end:'). Then you just need to create a shortcut to the new batch file and remember to use it when you're off the net. That said, we're all hoping that the problem goes away in a future version. /Paul
