Hi Uwe, At one of the last steps, a crash occured, complaining about a missing msvcr71.dll: This is now fixed in the installer version I just uploaded: https://developer.berlios.de/project/showfiles.php?group_id=5117release_id=12337 Yes, confirmed. Thank you! Using that new alternate installer, I also noticed that: - the console window still is there (I actually like that on slow machines ... something to watch while waiting :-) ) - the installer leaves MikTeX auto-download feature switched on after finish of installation (just noticed it, no complaint here) - the dictionary handling during installation works in the default for all users mode correctly (other than official 1.44-3 which I had problems with. Had no spare time to check out official 1.44-4 yet.) - the installer installs both English and my computers language (German) dictionaries, which is fine to me and certainly for completely new users, too. Great job, Uwe, thank you again. Regards, Tom Schlangen --

Hi list users, I wrote on the current alternate Win-installer: - the dictionary handling during installation works in the default for all users mode correctly (other than official 1.44-3 which I had problems with. Had no spare time to check out official 1.44-4 yet.) Meanwhile I checked the current official Win-installer (1.44-4), and that spell checker problem is gone there, too. Tnx2 the maintainer(s)! Re: 2nd bugfix to: [announce] LyXWinInstaller for LyX 1.4.4
Hi Uwe, At one of the last steps, a crash occured, complaining about a missing msvcr71.dll: Wow! This file should be present on your system by default. You are the first one since 1.5 years now having not having this file. What Win system are you using? - The label reads Windows XP(R) Professional OEM Software, on the CD is printed Enthält Service Pack 2 and Version 2002. - It was bought about 3 weeks ago - Installed on a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4270 XCD w/ 196MB RAM - Additionally only a network card and MS Network client and an USB mouse installed, all using original drivers coming along with XP - After that, online-registration at MS, then download and installation of all available service packs (about 72 or something) so far from the MS update site - No other software *whatsoever* installed - At that state, a HD image was taken That is the XP installation I have left over for LyX testing purposes, which I can reproduce by using the HD image. It probably can't get any cleaner than that for LyX testing purposes under XP ;-) So, if the msvcr71.dll is missing in that installation, but available on other machines, I am quite sure it must have been provided by some third party software... But anyway, I'll include this in the next release. Yes, one should not rely on third party software to be installed _before_ LyX So, both installers seem to have problems related to either a msvcr80.dll or msvcr71.dll, on the same machine. What msvcr80.dll problem do you have with LyXWinInstaller? I ship a correct version of this file. That msvcr80.dll problem was encountered and reported when using the official 1.4.4-2 installer, see the crash on startup reports by various testers. It does not occur when using the alternate installer. The installer did *not* install the new ImageMagick, That means that you don't have a folder in LyX's installation folder named \etc\ImageMagick, right? Can't look this up at the moment, I would have to re-apply the HD image, install the alternate installer, and then have a look again. Hope it helps, Tom Schlangen -- mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

IMO you should reconsider the decision to ship a stripped down python. This is causing endless hours of work for users, you and people who try to help on the list. The download size is not an issue if you use the full installer only for the first time, and for later updates only the minimal installer. I am pretty sure that this case will not be the last one of a missing python file if you continue to ship a stripped down python. We rely heavily on python for lyx2lyx and other helper scripts, and nobody who changes one of these is going to look whether the change will require another python file in the windows installer. I believe that's true. Actually, after the first Python error I had with 1.4.4, the first thing I did was to install a full version of Python. I also believe you should reconsider this decision. bugfix to: [announce] LyXWinInstaller for LyX 1.4.4
Hello LyXers, there were two bugs in the installer: - wrong beamer.layout file - wrong recognition of Acrobat 8 And also berlos.de killed my installer files from the server. I therefore published a new Windows installer version for LyX 1.4.4. You find it under the same location and name as yesterday's version: http://developer.berlios.de/project/showfiles.php?group_id=5117release_id=12226 You don't need to update your installation, you can alternatively - replace the existing beamer.layout with the one attached to this email, then reconfigure LyX - change in LyX's preferences in the fileformats section for the PDF formats the viewer from PDFViewWin7.cmd to PDFViewWin8.cmd, the reconfigure LyX. Sorry for the inconvenience. regards Uwe --- More infos about this installer can be found here: http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/LyXWinInstaller
Re: [announce] LyXWinInstaller for LyX 1.4.4
Dear Uwe, Now, after some output, the DOS-Box stays open. And it will stay open unless one closes it, and also it will re-appear again after restarting of LyX. This console will stay open together with LyX's main Window. The official installer use a special wrapper programm to hide the console window. Until this solution is not official it's not included. Well, meanwhile I actually find the output in that console window quite interesting, if not alone for the purpose of seeing/watching that something is done, when waiting for output to be generated. Instead of just disappearance of that console window in production versions of LyX coming on, I definitely would like to have a switch somewhere to decide myself, wether to have that console window shown, or not. I even wouldn´t mind if such a switch would not be generally accessible somewhere from the LyX frontend menue, but maybe in a configuation file. Or even by a command line parameter switch. bugfix to: [announce] LyXWinInstaller for LyX 1.4.4
Hello LyXers, there were two bugs in the installer: - wrong beamer.layout file - wrong recognition of Acrobat 8 And also berlos.de killed my installer files from the server. I therefore published a new Windows installer version for LyX 1.4.4. You find it under the same location and name as yesterday's version: http://developer.berlios.de/project/showfiles.php?group_id=5117_id=12226 You don't need to update your installation, you can alternatively - replace the existing beamer.layout with the one attached to this email, then reconfigure LyX - change in LyX's preferences in the fileformats section for the PDF formats the viewer from "PDFViewWin7.cmd" to "PDFViewWin8.cmd", the reconfigure LyX. Sorry for the inconvenience. regards Uwe --- More infos about this installer can be found here: http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/LyXWinInstaller

Well, meanwhile I actually find the output in that console window quite interesting, if not alone for the purpose of seeing/watching that something is done, when waiting for output to be generated. Instead of just disappearance of that console window in "production" versions of LyX coming on, I definitely would like to have a switch somewhere to decide myself, wether to have that console window shown, or not. I even wouldn´t mind if such a switch would not be generally accessible somewhere from the LyX frontend menue, but maybe in a configuation file. Or even by a command line parameter switch. Re: [announce] LyXWinInstaller for LyX 1.4.4
Hi Uwe, thank you very much for the new version! Using the small Windows installer package (since MikTeX, ImageMagick etc installed already), after Installation under W2k and WinXP, starting v.1.4.4 opens two windows now, first what appears to be a DOS-Box (probably cmd) and the LyXapplication itself Now, after some output, the DOS-Box stays open. And it will stay open unless one closes it, and also it will re-appear again after restarting of LyX. Or after closing it and then doing a reconfigure from the LyX app itself. This happens on two different machines (W2k and WinXP). Is this behaviour/appearance of a permanent (unless one closes it deliberately) additional DosBox/Cmd window intentional? Simply tick the "Vector format" checkbox for this format in the preferences as indicated in the announcement, and you get back the old quality. Georg

But that did not help either. I ticked the option "vector format" in the format preferences. Something must be wrong with this new LyX build, because the qualtity is not the only problem. It is unable toplace the figure properly. All my pdf figures are placed such that only a fraction of it appears and the rest looks clipped off the page. This never happened before. I know that I have not changed my pdf graphics, because I reinstalled LyX143 and everything was normal again. Even the alpha version LyX150 is handling them correctly. The problem seems to be with this version. A few mintues ago, the official version of LyX144 appeared on http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/Windows. I quickly installed it, but that made no difference. This is really frustrating, because I don't want to use the old-fashioned eps at all. Mukhtar
