Yes, confirmed. Thank you!

Using that new alternate installer, I also noticed that:

- the console window still is there (I actually like that on slow machines ...
something to watch while waiting :-) )

- the installer leaves MikTeX auto-download feature switched on after finish
of installation (just noticed it, no complaint here)

- the dictionary handling during installation works in the default for all
users mode correctly (other than official 1.44-3 which I had problems with.
Had no spare time to check out official 1.44-4 yet.)

- the installer installs both English and my computers language (German)
dictionaries, which is fine to me and certainly for completely new users, too.

Great job, Uwe, thank you again.

Re: 2nd bugfix to: [announce] LyXWinInstaller for LyX 1.4.4

2007-02-22 Thread Tom Schlangen
Hi Uwe,

At one of the last steps, a crash occured, complaining
 about a missing msvcr71.dll:

Wow! This file should be present on your system by default.
You are the first one since 1.5 years now having not having
this file. What Win system are you using?

- The label reads Windows XP(R) Professional OEM Software, on the CD is
printed Enthält Service Pack 2 and Version 2002.

- It was bought about 3 weeks ago

- Installed on a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4270 XCD w/ 196MB RAM

- Additionally only a network card and MS Network client and an USB mouse
installed, all using original drivers coming along with XP

- After that, online-registration at MS, then download and installation of all
available service packs (about 72 or something) so far from the MS update site

- No other software *whatsoever* installed

- At that state, a HD image was taken

That is the XP installation I have left over for LyX testing purposes, which I
can reproduce by using the HD image. It probably can't get any cleaner than
that for LyX testing purposes under XP ;-)

So, if the msvcr71.dll is missing in that installation, but available on other
machines, I am quite sure it must have been provided by some third party
software...

But anyway, I'll include this in the next release.

Yes, one should not rely on third party software to be installed _before_
LyX

So, both installers seem to have problems related to
either a msvcr80.dll or msvcr71.dll, on the same machine.

What msvcr80.dll problem do you have with LyXWinInstaller?
I ship a correct version of this file.

That msvcr80.dll problem was encountered and reported when using the official
1.4.4-2 installer, see the crash on startup reports by various testers. It
does not occur when using the alternate installer.

The installer did *not* install the new ImageMagick,

That means that you don't have a folder in LyX's installation
 folder named \etc\ImageMagick, right?

Can't look this up at the moment, I would have to re-apply the HD image,
install the alternate installer, and then have a look again.

Hope it helps,

Tom Schlangen

believe you should reconsider this decision.

2nd bugfix to: [announce] LyXWinInstaller for LyX 1.4.4

2007-02-20 Thread Uwe Stöhr

Hello LyXers,

I fixed two remaining bugs in the installer and published this as installer
version 2.11:

http://developer.berlios.de/project/showfiles.php?group_id=5117release_id=12253

Changelog:
- fix bug that BibTeX-files couldn't be handled
- update to ImageMagick 6.3.2-7: fix bug of wrong display size of PDF and EPS
images
 within LyX
Thanks to Martin A. Hansen:

I did the following:

- deinstalling ImageMagick
- deinstalling LyX (installer v2.10)
- leaving MikTex installed

Then installing the v2.11 full installer (which correctly noticed that MikTex
was installed)

Two problems occured, 1st one:

At one of the last steps, a crash occured, complaining about a missing
msvcr71.dll:

http://www.tubes.mynetcologne.de/misc/lyx_crash_win_v144-2.11.jpg (30kB)

Just hitting the enter key the installation continues and eventually leaves a
seemingly working LyX installation.

So, both installers seem to have problems related to either a msvcr80.dll or
msvcr71.dll, on the same machine.

Second problem:

The installer did *not* install the new ImageMagick, although it correctly
stated (at the beginning of the installation process) that this package will be
installed. Maybe this is a follow-up error to the first one, but I don´t know.

The download size is not an issue if you use the full installer only for the

I am pretty sure that this case will not be the last one of a missing python

Record of phased-in incompatible language changes.

Each line is of the form:

FeatureName = _Feature( OptionalRelease , MandatoryRelease ,
  CompilerFlag )

where, normally, OptionalRelease MandatoryRelease, and both are 5-tuples
of the same form as sys.version_info:

(PY_MAJOR_VERSION, # the 2 in 2.1.0a3; an int
 PY_MINOR_VERSION, # the 1; an int
 PY_MICRO_VERSION, # the 0; an int
PY_RELEASE_LEVEL, # alpha, beta, candidate or final; string
 PY_RELEASE_SERIAL # the 3; an int
)

OptionalRelease records the first release in which

from __future__ import FeatureName

was accepted.

In the case of MandatoryReleases that have not yet occurred,
MandatoryRelease predicts the release in which the feature will become part
of the language.

Else MandatoryRelease records when the feature became part of the language;
in releases at or after that, modules no longer need

from __future__ import FeatureName

to use the feature in question, but may continue to use such imports.

MandatoryRelease may also be None, meaning that a planned feature got
dropped.

Instances of class _Feature have two corresponding methods,
.getOptionalRelease() and .getMandatoryRelease().

CompilerFlag is the (bitfield) flag that should be passed in the fourth
argument to the builtin function compile() to enable the feature in
dynamically compiled code. This flag is stored in the .compiler_flag
attribute on _Future instances. These values must match the appropriate
#defines of CO_xxx flags in Include/compile.h.

No feature line is ever to be deleted from this file.

In the case of MandatoryReleases that have not yet occurred,
MandatoryRelease predicts the release in which the feature will become part
of the language.

Else MandatoryRelease records when the feature became part of the language;
in releases at or after that, modules no longer need

MandatoryRelease may also be None, meaning that a planned feature got

CompilerFlag is the (bitfield) flag that should be passed in the fourth

bugfix to: [announce] LyXWinInstaller for LyX 1.4.4

2007-02-16 Thread Uwe Stöhr

Hello LyXers,

there were two bugs in the installer:

- wrong beamer.layout file
- wrong recognition of Acrobat 8

And also berlos.de killed my installer files from the server.

I therefore published a new Windows installer version for LyX 1.4.4. You find
it under the same
location and name as yesterday's version:
http://developer.berlios.de/project/showfiles.php?group_id=5117release_id=12226

You don't need to update your installation, you can alternatively

- replace the existing beamer.layout with the one attached to this email, then
reconfigure LyX
- change in LyX's preferences in the fileformats section for the PDF formats
the viewer from
PDFViewWin7.cmd to PDFViewWin8.cmd, the reconfigure LyX.

Sorry for the inconvenience.
regards Uwe

Dear Uwe,

Now, after some output, the DOS-Box stays open. And it
will stay open unless one closes it, and also it will
re-appear again after restarting of LyX.

This console will stay open together with LyX's main Window.
The official installer use a special wrapper programm to
hide the console window. Until this
solution is not official it's not included.

Well, meanwhile I actually find the output in that console window quite
interesting, if not alone for the purpose of seeing/watching that something is
done, when waiting for output to be generated.

Instead of just disappearance of that console window in production versions
of LyX coming on, I definitely would like to have a switch somewhere to decide
myself, wether to have that console window shown, or not. I even wouldn´t mind
if such a switch would not be generally accessible somewhere from the LyX
frontend menue, but maybe in a configuation file. Or even by a command line
parameter switch.

Tnx2u,

Tom Schlangen

[announce] LyXWinInstaller for LyX 1.4.4

2007-02-15 Thread Uwe Stöhr

Hello LyXers,

I published a new Windows installer version for LyX 1.4.4:

http://developer.berlios.de/project/showfiles.php?group_id=5117release_id=12226

More infos about this installer can be found here:
http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/LyXWinInstaller

The most impotant changes in this installer version are:

- The small installer version does not ship GSView anymore
- The complete installer version offers to install JabRef, a BibTeX database
manager
- This know problem is now fixed with the new MiKTeX version that comes
together with this
  installer:
LyX's package and class database is incomplete when you don't have an
open internet connection while LyX is first started. (This is a bug in
MiKTeX.)
Workaround: open an internet connection and reconfigure LyX

This kills the textclass not found problem. Please report me if you still
have this problem.

!You don't need to reinstall MiKTeX to benefit from the fix, the installer
will ask you to update
MiKTeX. Press Yes when this question is shown and that's it.

---
Here is the complete installer changelog:

- update to LyX 1.4.4
- update to MiKTeX 2.5.2580
- update to ImageMagick 6.3.2-5

- GSView is no longer shipped with the small installer version
- existing Python installation is now only used for LyX when it is Python 2.5
(some Compaq and Dell computers are delivered with outdated Python
interpreters)

- fix crash when viewing PDF when Adobe Reader/Acrobat 8 is used
- fix that complete installer version proposed to install GSview when it is
already
  installed
- fix bug that installed Ghostscript is not always recognized
- fix bug that other PDF viewers then Acrobat/Adobe Reader and GSView weren't
recognized

- updated Readme files for the installer sourcecode:
  - mention the Galician translation files for NSIS
  - mention the required NSIS-package InetLoad
  - require NSIS 2.22 to create the installer

Thanks to Ramon Flores:
- updated Spanish and Portuguese translation and new Galician translation of
the installer
Thanks to Christian Ridderström:
- updated Swedish translation of the installer
Thanks to Gisela Stöhr:
- updated Slovak translation of the installer
Thanks to Szõke Sándor:
- updated Hungarian translation of the installer
Thanks to Edwin Leuven:
- updated Dutch translation of the installer
Thanks to Allesandro Garberi:
- updated Italian translation of the installer

This is now fixed in the included MiKTeX version!:
- LyX's package and class database is incomplete when you don't have an open
internet
connection while LyX is first started. (This is a bug in MiKTeX.)
Workaround: open an internet connection and reconfigure LyX

---

best regards
Uwe

p.s. the complete installer version should be available within two hours.

Re: [announce] LyXWinInstaller for LyX 1.4.4

2007-02-15 Thread Tom Schlangen
Hi Uwe,

thank you very much for the new version!

Using the small Windows installer package (since MikTeX, ImageMagick etc
installed already), after Installation under W2k and WinXP, starting v.1.4.4
opens two windows now, first what appears to be a DOS-Box (probably cmd) and
the LyXapplication itself

Now, after some output, the DOS-Box stays open. And it will stay open unless
one closes it, and also it will re-appear again after restarting of LyX. Or
after closing it and then doing a reconfigure from the LyX app itself.

This happens on two different machines (W2k and WinXP).

Is this behaviour/appearance of a permanent (unless one closes it deliberately)
additional DosBox/Cmd window intentional?

Tnx2u again,

   Tom Schlangen

You don't need to do that. You probably have modified the pdf format.
Simply tick the Vector format checkbox for this format in the

 Georg,
Thank you for your suggestion. But that did not help either. I ticked the option
vector format in the format preferences. Something must be wrong with this new
LyX build, because the qualtity is not the only problem. It is unable toplace
the figure properly. All my pdf figures are placed such that only a fraction of
it appears and the rest looks clipped off the page. This never happened before.
I know that I have not changed my pdf graphics, because I reinstalled LyX143 and
everything was normal again. Even the alpha version LyX150 is handling them
correctly. The problem seems to be with this version. A few mintues ago, the
official version of LyX144 appeared on http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/Windows.
I quickly installed it, but that made no difference.
This is really frustrating, because I don't want to use the old-fashioned eps at
all.

Exported the LyX document to LaTeX and the fist line is:

which, of course, shows where the problem lies.

You don't need to do that. You probably have modified the pdf format.
Simply tick the Vector format checkbox for this format in the
preferences as indicated in the announcement, and you get back the old
quality.

 Georg,
Thank you for your suggestion.
This is really frustrating, because I don't want to use the old-fashioned eps at
all.

This console will stay open together with LyX's main Window. Closing this
window also closes LyX.
The official installer use a special wrapper programm to hide the console window. Until this
solution is not official it's not included.
