For me, also the key-binding Alt-M G p works
(with the last letter beeing a Latin transcription of the desired Greek one).

If you are going to be inserting many of these, it will save you time to
learn
the LaTeX commands: \pi, \phi, \theta, \sigma, and you can capitalize
the first
letter to get Greek capitals. You can just type these into math.

Do you have a configured *.ui file?

What happens if you temporarily rename the ~/.lyx dir to ~/.lyx.bak, say
(assuming a Unix-like OS).

Lyx 1.5.0beta2 with Fedora 7: No math panel!

2007-06-17 Thread Rudi Gaelzer
I've just upgraded my system to Fedora 7, which comes with LyX 1.5.0beta2.
I'm having a problem I've never had before. I cannot get the Math Panel to
open. When I click on Insert - Math - Math Panel, the bottom line shows:
(dialog-show mathpanel), but the panel itself won't show up.

Is anyone having the same problem?

Besides that, how can I view the math toolbar? On LyX 1.4.4 I just have to
right click on the toolbar that I have the option to include the math toolbar
on the display.

Re: Math Panel

There are two math toolbars now. The ordinary one and the former math panel.
You can open it via View-Toolbars-Math Panel.

 Jürgen

In that case I think that the User's Guide needs updating as it still states in Section
5.1.6 The Math Panel dialog (accesable via InsertMath.

Roger

Dear LyX users,

I think the Math Panel really IS gone in LyX 1.5.0b3, Intel, Mac OS
10.4.9. I've tried reinstalling and reconfiguring LyX, to no avail.
There is no VIewToolbarsMath Panel, only ViewToolbarsMath. The
Math toolbar works but lacks most of the Math Panel options (arrows,
Greek, etc). Nothing pops up as shown on that wiki page.

Works for me (Intel Mac, 10.4.9, LyX 1.5.0b3). Have you customized
your .ui files? Try quitting LyX, moving aside ~/Library/Application

Support/LyX-1.5/session, and restarting LyX. Does that help? (If not,
try it also for preferences.)

access math symbols like the different forms of equalities, like the is
proportional to, lessthan or equal to, or approximately equal to, since
the math panel has been turned into the math toolbar. Am I just missing
something? I did find the menu with the different delimeters, but I'm
not finding similar menus for the other types of symbols.

User math panel

2006-05-24 Thread Jean-Pierre Chretien

To: lyx-users@lists.lyx.org
From: Georg Baum [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: Re: A debate topic: What can LyX still learn from scientific
workplace?
Date: Wed, 24 May 2006 10:19:36 +0200

[discussion on improvements of the toolobar with more math buttons]

Another way to tune the proposed math buttons to the particular user needs
would be
to create a user math panel in which the user could paste the constructs
frequently used
to retrieve them later, even in another document.
This would solve also the problem of retrieval of the macros, as this math
cache
could include the currently defined math-macros.

The status of the user math panel should be of course subject to
storage/retrieval.

This is not exactly a SW feature, I've used this 15 years ago with Publisher,
the Ann Arbor SGML instance of TeX.

That will need some more coding, I guesse adapting the current math panel to
these needs
is not straightforward ?

I guess it will require more thinking about the UI than coding (apart from
the macros, their design is broken in general). As always, if you want this
to be remembered put it as enhancement request in http://bugzilla.lyx.org.

Math Panel not a window?

2006-05-24 Thread Maria Gouskova

I use Mac OS 10.4.6, LyX 1.4.1, but this was also the case in 1.3.7:

The default shortcut for closing a window in the mac bind file is Cmd
+W, which closes any open document (as expected). But the Math Panel
and other editing windows (e.g., Paragraph Settings, Edit Table)
cannot be closed using Cmd+W--I've been closing them with the mouse
(which I personally find a little distracting, since other programs
on the Mac platform generally treat dialogs of this type as regular
windows, and Cmd+W works on them).

Can something be added to the bind file to close these things with a
key shortcut? Is this an intentional feature of the program, i.e.,
does LyX for Windows also not treat dialogs/editing panels as non-
windows?

Try esc to close all dialogs.

I'm sorry, I think I was too indirect in making my point. Closing the
window is not something I am having difficulty with--I can do it, but
it works differently from how things normally work in the OS. It
therefore makes the Math Panel and other features of LyX kind of
annoying. Would it be a hard quirk to eliminate?

Re: Creating matrix without the use of Math Panel

2004-08-06 Thread Uwe Sthr
Hi Hannan,
I had been reading a bit your pdf file and i must say its very good and
i learned from it a lot.
I must say that some of the things like \dfrac i hadn't succeed to apply
in my LyX.
You can also have a look in the source file. I published it as LyX-file
under

http://wiki.lyx.org/pmwiki.php/LyX/LyXMathebefehle#download
I was looking on your matrix section, trying to look for a way to create
a matrix in the size I want without the need to to go to Math Panel. Do
you know how to do it?
You can use the commands \matrix, \bmatrix etc. in a formula, to create
a matrix box. Within the box use the menu Edit - Math to add and delete
colums and rows (shortcuts M-m c i, M-m c d and M-m w i, M-m w d).
The next version of my doc will contain this information.

I hadn't seen in your article the use in M - ( or { or [ for creating a
pare of ( ) or {} or []. Maybe its because i don't know so much
German...:). (M - stand for alt).
The shortcuts for paranthesis pairs are described in chap. 5.1.2 as
Alt-m Klammer, which means M-m parenthesis (e.g. M-m { ).

Hopefully I'll find some time to translate the document to english, so
that everybody will be able to read it.

regards Uwe
