Question: How to enter a name for theorem?

I can't seem to find a way to specify the name for theorem, definition, etc.
For example, in latex, I would write 

\begin{definition}[aName]
...
\end{definition}

Now in lyx, using some ams document style, I can choose definition from the
drop down box, but how do I specify a name for it?

To do this in lyx, just put [aName] in latex (ERT) at the begining of 
your theorem text (see attached).
