Solution for Hungarians!
Dear My Fellows Hungarians (and others strange guys planning to edit Hungarian text in LyX), Let me share with you how you can configure Linux + LyX in order to get proper functioning with Hungarian text. Here is the problem: 1) If you install Linux (I have experience about Red Hat 7.2) with default language En, then you will have the following problems: a) Assume you get a Hu winword doc file from people using MS Windows. When open it with Star Office the letters with Hungarian accent (\H{o} and \H{u} in TeX notation) are missed. b) In some editors (like Star Office) keyboard keys corresponding to these characters do not work. c) In LyX (1.1.6fix4 or 1.2pre4) you cannot enter these Hungarian characters into the search/replace window of LyX. (the keys do not work in that window). 2) Now, if you install Linux with default language (and kbd) Hu, then all above problems disappear, but a new problem appears: d) You cannot enter a space into the search/replace window of LyX, because pressing space LyX starts performing the replace all command (be careful!!!). Here is the solution of the problem: A) Install Linux with default language Hu. B) Do not use rpm files for installing LyX. C) Install LyX from the source files, but use ./configure --disable-nls In this way LyX will be installed in English (but still understands the Hu keyboard!) D) Then in Edit Preferences Screen Fonts Encoding chose iso8859-2 In this way, all of the above problems a)-d) are solved simultaneously. Best, Laszlo E. Szabo -- Laszlo E.
