(Run the MikTeX Settings application, switch to the Roots tab, and see where UserConfig maps.) It probably is somewhere under Documents and Settings. Drill down to ...\tex\latex, make a folder under that (call it whatever you want), and put the .cls file there. Then, in the MikTeX Settings app, General tab, click Refresh FNDB. Once that's done, reconfigure LyX and restart it. /Paul

problem adding a class/layout
Hello, I am running Lyx 1.4.3 on XP. I need to format a paper (by Monday!) using the sig-alternate style. I have placed sig-alternate.cls in the Tex distribution and added sig-alternate.layout to both my local lyx folder and to the main lyx folder (..LyX 1.4.3-5\Resources\layouts). I also ran reconfigure (which produced an “illegal instruction” but then seemed to run to completion). However, I still do not see the new document class show up in Document | Settings..
