RE: texlive or miktech
I have been using MikTeX on Windows and very happy with it. Easy to istall, easy to handle… Updating, installing new packages, package maintenance, I had no major problem. Occasionally, when there is an update or change in MikTeX system it gives error but in a day or so it is always fixed. It gives the impression that the maintainer is always on top it. I have used MikTex with WinEdt, Texmaker and Lyx and had no issue. I have also used my own macros and was easy to install. I did not use the other TeX systems but if you chose MikTeX you will not be sorry for general use. B. For background, I was on Windows for a (painfully) long time, and I've been using almost exclusively Linux for about a decade. I strongly prefer the MiKTeX package manager to the corresponding program in TeXLive when it comes to installing individual packages (and thus just what you need). At one time I tried out a Linux port of MiKTeX. I'm not sure if it still exists or not, and I don't recall why I decided to go with TeXLive on Linux. Bottom line, though: if I had to use Windows most of the time but occasionally switch to Linux, I think I would use MiKTeX. If it were the other way around (only occasional Windows use), I would probably use TeXLive. If I were exclusively on Windows, I would use MiKTeX. Paul

Like others, I have been using TexLive for years now (since it replaced EmTex), because it runs the same under Windows (which I still use sometime) and Linux (which I use most of the time). I also find that maintaining and updating using TexLive is easier than using MikTeX. EK On 03/02/2018 04:40 PM, Rich Shepard wrote: On Fri, 2 Mar 2018, Wolfgang Engelmann wrote: Windows. RE: texlive or miktech
Interesting question (miktech vs. texlive). Additional consideration: * I have installed Inkscape and try to use this drawing tool instead of Visio * My current Inkscape installation allows me to insert TeX math and have it converted to a curve/object in Inkscape -- which I can then scale * In an *ideal* world, I'd like to keep the TeX math in the Inkscape drawing in a form that makes LyX scale the text so that it fits with the body text size of the document... OK -- I haven't looked into LyX' recent Inkscape support, and don't know whether such scaling is supported -- and whether Inkscape support works for both Miktech and TeXLive... -B -Original Message- From: lyx-users@lists.lyx.org [mailto:lyx-users@lists.lyx.org] On Behalf Of Wolfgang Engelmann Sent: Friday, March 2, 2018 16:29 To: lyx-users@lists.lyx.org Subject: Re: texlive or miktech Am 02.03.2018 um 16:21 schrieb Rich Shepard: > On Fri, 2 Mar 2018, Wolfgang Engelmann wrote: > >> Which one is recommendable for the beginner: texlive or miktech?
