[OT] 10 questions for the users of LyX (for my thesis)

2001-11-05 Thread Antonio Gulino

Dear LyX-users,
I post this message because I'm writing a thesis in economics about Open Source
and LyX.

I want to make you some simple questions. The goal is to know something about
the users of an Open Source software, like LyX.

You are LyX users,
so tell me something about you and LyX
from the view of an user.

I hope you can help me and all those people who want to know more about Open
Source.

Now the 10 questions
PLEASE: do NOT reply to the list, but only to me: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
(if you want, you can answer in german, french or italian too)

1) your profession
(i.e. student in physics, professor in economics, engineer of NASA, ...)

2) When did you hear the first time about LyX?

3) How did you hear about LyX?
(i.e. using LaTeX, reading a Linux-Magazine, searching in the web, a friend of
you, a teacher, founded in a Linux-distro, ...)

4) What do you do with LyX?
( i.e. Writing many formula, writing documentation with
graphics, only as wordprocessor,..., for a master thesis, for the internal
documentation of your enterprise, for...)

5) which is for you an alternative to LyX?
(any editor with latex-syntax-highlighting, MS-Word, Abiword, Kword, MathSpad,
Scientific Word, ...)

6) why is it an alternative?

7) Why do you prefer LyX? (because you prefer LyX, isn't it?! :-)
(i.e. because it is Open source? because it's free [like beer]?
because it is the best formel-editor? because on Linux it's the best wysiwyg/m
word/document-processor? because for long documents it is always better then
the damned xy? because ...)

8) which release of LyX are you using? the english vesion or a
translated version?

9) where do you found helps about LyX? (the documentation, the users-list,
Voss's pages, latex-newsgroups)
often? one time par day? one time par week? one time in your life?

10) Are someone who makes little seminars/courses/presentations in your school,
university, enterprise?

That's all folks.
give me your answer! (on english, german, french, italian)
PLEASE: do NOT reply to the list, but only to me: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Thank you for your time
ciao
antonio gulino

PS: if you don't like hear about the results, let me know!

There must be something screwed with the rights on your files. I would try
texconfig and set RW on /var/lib/texmf/fonts (there is a special command
for it in texconfig menus) and then check whether users are allowed to read
ls-lR files (one should be in the root of all of your $TEXMF trees; for my
RedHat these are in /usr/share/texmf/, /usr/local/share/texmf/,
/var/lib/texmf/ ). And of course, running texhash would not make any harm.

Thanks for your help, it is ok now for this point.
I need to get use with lyx-1.1.6 and Debian ;-)
