Yes, this is the nail square on the head.  Anything that requires a 
special [fill in the blank] means the audience is limited to only those 
with that special doohickey.

Ah, I see what you mean; no, one-bit sound on one hand and 'normal' UART
MIDI on the other - no bit-banging.

sound..  on my model 3/4 i have a speaker hooked to the cassette out lead
and it plays music sounds and speech from games etc
