Re: [M100] Possible BBS launch

2023-02-27 Thread Jesse Lafleur
A pap2t ATA connected to your ethernet or wifitoethernet bridge and
something like a dialgizmo for the pulse to tone.

The asterisk server can be a dedicated machine or a virtual machine running
any Linux.

Then everything is just software.

Re: [M100] Possible BBS launch

2023-02-26 Thread Jesse Lafleur
You can 100% accomplish this using an affordable PAP2T ATA connected to
either a local asterisk (free PBX software) or remote asterisk server over
ethernet.
This can be run entirely virtualised - no special hardware other than
either a "landline" or the pap2t. (ill get to rotary later..)

The PAP2T and asterisk can provide ulaw to allow 300bps connections. Yes,
running a local asterisk is far more stable than trying to connect to one
remotely, but ive done it!
I have a setup functioning to 4800 baud for faster modems as well.

The rotary element will likely need a pulse to tone adapter, lots of
options for that, I use a PBX and I also have a few purpose devices new and
old.

You can easily have a BBS software or custom *NIX program to interface, and
with the various termcap things in this group that have been shared, you
can get a viable connection.

wood cases you see are custom period.

The sol on the other hand did sell with wooden sides.

Was it resin printer or filament printed? Any pics? any links from where
you bought it?
I'm positive one that could survive many many openings could be made with
the right technique.

Yup. I iknew it would be difficult but i did it anyway... ive got the

Any tips or suggestions on getting everything back together? Just the
case/button/cover itself, not the internal drive.

Re: [M100] Hello Model 100 friends!

2021-05-25 Thread Jesse Lafleur
Hello Gary,
I'm glad you like the design. I wanted to find a way to capture the "slab"
form factor of the M100 but alter it in ways that are better suited to
modularity.
*I anticipate having stock again in probably about 6-8 weeks.*
I may open up sales again *sooner *than that, once I have total certainty
on timelines when all my components will arrive in Canada.

Those units will be shipped after all "Founder's Edition" and "Kickstarter"
related orders have been completed and shipped. I am very fortunate to have
managed to find enough funds to get enough pieces to resume sales. These
kinds of things really only work in bulk, and I don't have the kind of
access to capital that can help me get one batch ahead of my orders, so
when I run out of stock a second time, it may be some time before I can
offer it again. Hard to convince anyone to lend you a quarter million
dollars ;)

I have made the case itself using domestic components (raw aluminum)
through local extruders and sheet metal fabricators, and I am producing a
few components using locally sourced PLA thermoplastics. The
project/product is truly international! There are of course modules,
boards, and components that have come from Asia and Europe as well.

While this first machine doesn't have a "custom" made computer (I am
providing Raspberry Pi computers which support dual HDMI output), the power
management board does feature a user programmable microcontroller which can
serve auxiliary uses like a sort of co-processor. It is powerful enough to
output composite or VGA video, but not an HDMI signal which would have made
it compatible with the LCD module I am including. Ultimately, I wanted
people to have the freedom to bring the single board computer they want,
making "my own" is something in the cards down the road, but I won't be in
any way limiting people to using my SBC, I always want people to be able to
use what they have.

I think it's still possible.
Both of my M100s are very "pale" and seem to match the photos in the
magazines I have rather well!
In addition, this knowledge may have been known, just like the Apple II was
determined without resorting to colour analysis of 40 year old paint.
Was just hoping someone here may already know, inside info or the like.

Ultimately, if I don't get a satisfactory answer, I'll do an analysis
myself and try to compensate for bromine yellowing...
