Re: [M100] NADS Boxes
Let us do some of that. I would happily spend time making something in either kicad for the pcb or openscad for the enclosure. Then there is never again any such thing as a license or an unusable file, either due to age or needing to buy an expensive or no longer available product. -- bkw On Tue, Sep 24, 2019, 4:42 PM Ken Pettit wrote: > Well, there are other reasons also. Well, there are other reasons also. Many of the components that were used for the NADSBox PCB are no longer available. I would have to basically redesign the PCB, choose new components and re-do the layout from scratch. The tool I used in 2008 was Pads PCB, but that license expired years ago. I now use Cadence Allegro, and there is no good import. Plus then I would have a design effort for the 3D STL artwork. I have designed and 3D printed a couple of things before, but never anything as complicated as an enclosure like NADSBox with AA battery compartment, battery cover, SD card slot, etc. Maybe a thought for some type of NADSMini enclosure, though I think a pre-existing DB25 backshell and simple permanent sticker would work. As the resident 3D Printer Repairman, if the volume is so low, is there any *disadvantage* to supplying a PCB with an STL that the buyer could have printed, and optionally purchase pre-printed at a reasonable fee? *ahem* custom colors. Here’s a cheesy thing I did in OpenSCAD for the DSO138 Occiliscope board: - Lee - 909.427.0250 - Destroying technology problems. > On Sep 23, 2019, at 3:22 PM, Jim Anderson wrote: > > >> >> -Original Message- >> >> However, I *am* thinking about / working on a NADSMini version that I >> haven't really told anyone about yet. Re: [M100] NADS Boxes
Hey Fred, There won't be a "Batch #2" because they are very expensive to manufacture (the price of the enclosures is $5K all by itself), and there is no way to recoop the investment with only a couple of dozen people interested. However, I *am* thinking about / working on a NADSMini version that I haven't really told anyone about yet. It would not have a removeable SD card but rather a USB port that just plugs directly into your PC and shows up as a USB drive. And it would be housed in a DB25 backshell with no custom enclosure machining expenses. Still many months off as I have just begun to design it (though I have some parts on order to play with). It would probably even have WiFi in it (at least that's what I'm thinking at the moment). Ken On 9/23/19 3:11 PM, Fred wrote: If I miss out on this round of them, count me in for Batch #2.
