I figured out that it's a bit easier to make the final connection at the screen
end after assembling the case, rather than trying to cram my big ham fist
inside the case to make the connection at the motherboard end. The last piece
of plastic to go back on is the plastic cover just below the screen, after
connecting the cable. It's still a bit of a clumsy operation.

I had an urge to take my Model 200 apart to remind myself of what the power
button looks like. That display flex cable sure is annoying!

I'd imagine that it already occurred to you to check at Digi-Key, but I wanted
to take a look for myself anyway. Frustratingly, I could find several switches
with very similar styling and functionality, but none with close enough pin or
plunger dimensions.

Sure - I'll take a crack at refurbishing the switch. Contact me
off-list and we'll arrange something.

Would still be nice to find a suitable modern replacement though, but
I ack that this might not be possible.

Thanks!

I have a scrap 200 with a bad "=" and "del" key, and the power button has too
high of a resistance. I was planning on trying to repair them since I have the
3 keys desoldered, dismantled and put in a baggy.

Since I'm probably never going to fix this keyboard, would you want the power
button despite it's high resistance? Contact cleaner will probably do the trick

[M100] Tandy 200 power button replacement

2018-06-27 Thread Josh Malone
All,

I've finally managed to acquire a model 200 system! ... and there was
much rejoicing...
It's in pretty good condition, other than being from a smoker's home.
But, the power button switch is missing the plunger entirely. I can
power the system up and down by shorting the contacts with a
screwdriver, but that's no way to live. :)

The T200 tech ref lists an obscure and uncrossable part number for
this switch. Does anybody know of a suitable modern replacement? It
looks like I should be able to drop an normally-open momentary switch
in there - but has anybody found one that works physically in the case
and PCB?

Thanks,

-Josh
