Re: Typing On The iPhone's On-Screen Keyboard

Well, I've gotten faster with two fingers, and even with Fleksy I use two
fingers, rich makes things faster. I'm using Fleksy for VoiceOver right now,
because I really don't like the regular Fleksy app, because of the smaller
typing space and the inability to automatically copy and clear when switching
away from the app. I just hope they have Fleksy for VoiceOver as a keyboard of
its own.

Re: Downcast adding a podcast help

2014-06-16 Thread Catherine Turner
Hi,

Thanks. Not sure what Shift Command t is meant to do but it doesn't
do anything for me. But I went into that table and interacted with
the search like you said, typed in the box and pressed Enter. I then
stopped interacting with it and the table and then went across to the
search results. The troublesome bit which still puts me off sometimes
is in order to get to the search bit you need to go past the specify
url bit, and every time you go past that it pops up asking for a url
but then you can just press escape and carry on moving through the
table to find the search bit.

Thanks,
Catherine

At the top of that table is an item where you can put in an url or

What I'm wondering is where does Downcast get the list of top podcasts

couldn't get any results even when typing something I knew to be a
downloaded episode , so not sure whether that was meant to search
Itunes/a database of podcasts or my local episodes and just I couldn't
 get it to work.

Sometimes I come across podcasts and can't find the url so am hoping I
 could search within Downcast.

 Can anyone help?

tagging somebody on Facebook using Safari on Mac

2014-06-16 Thread Laurel and Stockard
I know this might be a dumb question, but I'm gonna ask it anyway. How do I tag
somebody by first name only on Facebook? Like I'll see people tagged in
something and only their first name shows up. Also, I know how to tag people in
a status, but how do I do so in a comment? The directions I find talk about
using the @ symbol, start typing a name and a pop up menu, but i'm just not
seeing it. Thanks!

Leaving the list, probably permanently

2014-06-16 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
It's with major dismay that I need to announce my leaving of this list. The
odds that I will ever rejoin at this point in time are very very slim. I
can't say whether anyone on list has done anything wrong per sé. There are
a few members who'll be left unnamed who've done some things I consider
definitely to be questionably borderline, but the main reason that I'm
leaving is due to lifestyle changes. You all probably are not gonna see me
around in the blind community hardly at all anymore. Don't ask why. You
don't wanna know.

If anyone wants to keep in touch, send me your name, Skype name, e-mail,
phone number, whatever you want me to have, off list to:

cgwaxhawlo...@clgproductions.com

I'll then take it into consideration.

Again folks, I feel I had a lot to give to this mac community, and it's very
saddening to me that I'm having to make this decision, but there have been
some things in the last few days especially, which have caused me to
re-evaluate my life priorities, and right now, I don't have time to give to
this list, so me staying would be completely unfair to everyone. I'd
probably be more of a burden than I would a help.

Anyway, I'm gonna say my goodbyes and be outta here, as I'm getting a bit
misty eyed. I thank all of you who took the time these last 3 years,
whether it be on this list, Mac Visionaries, privately, whatever where ever,
who have dilligently worked with me on learning the mac, and Voiceover.
Without you guys, I never would have progressed to where I am now. My heart
really goes out to all of you with gratitude.

Have a wonderful day, and I wish all the best with their macintosh/IOS/Apple
TV endeavors.

Chris.

Hey Sarah,
Yeah, it's like, I can hit the @ sign and start typing, but I never can seem to
access the drop down menu that's supposed to appear. Somehow I've seen other
blind mac users do it, I just can't figure out how. I'm not particularly even
sure if I know how to tag somebody in a comment or by first name only on IOS,
but I've never tried it either.

Re: tagging somebody on Facebook using Safari on Mac

2014-06-16 Thread Laurel and Stockard
Ok all, after doing a little further research, here's what I think I've figured
out, and maybe one of you real voiceover pros can help us out, but maybe this
isn't fixable either.
So, here's the deal. I'll give you the good news first. On an iPhone, iPad etc,
you can hit the @ sign and begin typing somebody's name, feel higher on the
screen and you should see a list of people who's names begin with the letters
of the name you're looking for. Select the person you're looking for and
continue with your comment. Don't put a space between the @ and the beginning
letters of the person's name. If you want the last name or middle name or both
gone, then after you select the person from the list, hit the backspace once to
get rid of the last name and twice if the person has a middle and last name
that you wanna get rid of.
Now, for the bad news. The process should be the same for the mac, hit the @
sign and then begin typing a name, and a drop down menu should appear and you
should be able to select the person, hit backspace if you wanna get rid of the
last name, etc. The part that we VO users can't get around is that once you
start typing, no drop down menus seem to appear. I don't think Voiceover is
recognizing the menu, assuming it's there. I'm not sure if it's fixable or not,
but maybe somebody more knowledgable than I can take this info and do something
with it.

Re: tagging somebody on Facebook using Safari on Mac

2014-06-16 Thread Bryan Jones
Hello Laurel Sarah,

On my Macs I’m currently able to tag FB Friends from a popup list using the
following steps:
1. This assumes the latest versions of MacOS and Safari are installed, QuickNav
is turned off, and that javascript is enabled in Safari (Safari / Preferences /
Security / Enable Javascript).
2. Go to the main Facebook site www.facebook.com. Note that this will not work
on the mobile Facebook site, m.facebook.com.
3. On the main Facebook page, navigate to and activate the button labeled
“Update Status.” VO now announces “What’s on your mind” and I can start typing
my status update here.
4. When I want to tag someone in the body of the status, I type the “@“ symbol
followed by the first few letters of their name, as you mentioned, and then I
can use one of the following three methods to select and insert the desired
name into the status. Note that all of these methods require Javascript to be
enabled in Safari.
Method 1: Press the down arrow key with no modifier keys and VO automatically
moves into the list of matching names and I can highlight the friend I want to
tag and then press VO+Spacebar to insert the name into the status and resume
typing.
Method 2: if your Mac has a mouse or trackpad and if you are comfortable using
it and if you have your VO Verbosity set to speak text under mouse after delay
of zero seconds” you might be able to press VO+Command+F5 to bring the mouse
pointer to the VO cursor and then move the mouse pointer down through the popup
list of names and click once to insert the name.
Method 3: Open the Item Chooser menu (VO+I) and type the first few letters you
typed in step 4 above. This narrows my item chooser down to the list of names
in the popup list and I can then navigate and select the desired name using
normal Item Chooser / VO commands.

BTW, On my Macs I normally use the FB mobile site, m.facebook.com, but I’m not
able to tag friends using the mobile site, which is why I wrote my instructions
using the standard FB site.

Also, I’ve not yet tried removing the last names from a tag, so I can’t speak
to whether or not that works in Safari on the Mac.

Lastly, while the folks at FB are undeniably making great strides in terms of
site accessibility, I have a sense that they are still prone to making random,
unannounced back-end changes that alter the layout and behavior of the site.
Thus, YMMV.

HTH, and please let us know if this works for you,
Bryan

 Hello Laurel Sarah,

On my Macs I’m currently able to tag FB Friends from a popup list using the
 following steps:
 1. This assumes the latest versions of MacOS and Safari are installed,
QuickNav is turned off, and that javascript is enabled in Safari (Safari /
Preferences / Security / Enable Javascript).
 2. Go to the main Facebook site www.facebook.com. Note that this will not
work on the mobile Facebook site, m.facebook.com.
 3. On the main Facebook page, navigate to and activate the button labeled
“Update Status.” VO now announces “What’s on your mind” and I can start
 typing my status update here.
 4. When I want to tag someone in the body of the status, I type the “@“
symbol followed by the first few letters of their name, as you mentioned, and
then I can use one of the following three methods to select and insert the
desired name into the status. Note that all of these methods require
Javascript to be enabled in Safari.
Method 1: Press the down arrow key with no modifier keys and VO automatically
moves into the list of matching names and I can highlight the friend I want
to tag and then press VO+Spacebar to insert the name into the status and
 resume typing.
Method 2: if your Mac has a mouse or trackpad and if you are comfortable
using it and if you have your VO Verbosity set to speak text under mouse
after delay of zero seconds” you might be able to press VO+Command+F5 to
bring the mouse pointer to the VO cursor and then move the mouse pointer down
through the popup list of names and click once to insert the name.
Method 3: Open the Item Chooser menu (VO+I) and type the first few letters
you typed in step 4 above. This narrows my item chooser down to the list of
names in the popup list and I can then navigate and select the desired name
using normal Item Chooser / VO commands.

BTW, On my Macs I normally use the FB mobile site, m.facebook.com, but I’m
not able to tag friends using the mobile site, which is why I wrote my
instructions using the standard FB site.

Also, I’ve not yet tried removing the last names from a tag, so I can’t speak
to whether or not that works in Safari on the Mac.

Lastly, while the folks at FB are undeniably making great strides in terms of
site accessibility, I have a sense that they are still prone to making
random, unannounced back-end changes that alter the layout and behavior of
 the site. Thus, YMMV.

HTH, and please let us know if this works for you,
 Bryan

The status tagging works in the mobile sight if you type your status and then
move to the right and hit tag people, but thank God, now we've got a way to tag
people in the middle of a status and not just at the end. :-) Thanks!
