Don’t pull the trigger on upgrading to iCloud Drive just yet | Macworld

2014-09-17 Thread Sarah k Alawami
I already knew this but could not speak of it until now. Wait when you are
prompted when you install ios8 in just a few hours.
http://www.macworld.com/article/2684105/don-t-pull-the-trigger-on-upgrading-to-icloud-drive-just-yet.html

Don’t pull the trigger on upgrading to iCloud Drive just yet

If you’re upgrading to iOS 8 on Wednesday, you must resist the urge to upgrade
to iCloud Drive if you want to continue to sync your phone to your Mac. Why?
Well, iCloud Drive only works with iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite. And you all know
which OS we’re still waiting on.

Until Yosemite drops, upgrading to iCloud Drive will keep you from syncing
devices running iOS 8 and devices running OS X Mavericks. Good news: After you
install iOS 8, Apple will ask you if you want to upgrade to iCloud Drive. Tap
the button that says “Not Now.” Easy enough, right?

You can go back and upgrade at any time, but unless you want a file-syncing
nightmare on your hands, you’ll wait for Yosemite’s official release. You don't
even have to take our word for it: Developers like Realmac Software and Bloom,
which makes Day One have taken to their blogs to warn users about potential
syncing problems and the lack of iCloud Drive support for pre-Yosemite versions
of OS X.

iCloud Drive is Apple’s version of Dropbox or Google Drive, a cloud-based
storage system that lets you share files across multiple devices and apps. You
can even sync documents with PCs running Windows 7. iCloud Drive is part of
Apple’s new suite of “Continuity” features connecting OS X to iOS—iCloud is the
backbone for the integration. Recently, Apple dropped prices for iCloud users
to encourage its use and now offers 5GB for free and 20GB for $1 a month ($4 a
month will get you 200GB). Apple recently started issuing refunds for
subscribers who were forking over $40 a year for 20GB.

Re: help with Normalising audio files with Amadeus Pro

2014-09-17 Thread Sarah k Alawami
Select all in the file, go to effect and normalise. Remember though normalise
is not the same as compression.

normalising takes the loudest point and brings it up to 0, then brings up
everythign up in perportion. It's like turning up a volume nob. If you want
compression like stuff get cn levelator and normalise that way. It nromalisizes
the wave files and makes a copy with the word output appended to the end so you
can keep the unmodified file. I use it alot for speach.

FYI: app released for US guide dog handlers

2014-09-17 Thread Laurie Mehta
I have not checked out the app yet, but read this on another list and sharing
FYI:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Guide Dog Users Group launches Innovative Mobile App

Tampa, Florida (September 17, 2014): The National
Association of Guide dog Users Inc., a division of the National Federation
of the Blind and the nation's leading service animal advocacy organization,
announced today that it has release the NAGDU Guide Service Dog Advocacy
Information app. This new IOS app provides comprehensive information about
the rights and responsibilities of service animal users under state and
federal law.

Every law in the United States concerning service animals can now be in
your pocket, says Marion Gwizdala, NAGDU's president and a guide dog user
himself. There is no other single source for this type of information.

The NAGDU app provides the entire text of the implementing regulations of
the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) concerning service animals, along
with the relevant laws of each state. It also offers specific guidance for
those industries in which service animal users face the most challenges,
such as restaurants, taxicabs, hotels, and health care facilities. In
addition, those who face discrimination because of their service dog can use
the app to call a special advocate trained to resolve such issues. The app
is provided for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch users  free of charge as a
public service by the National Association of guide dog Users. You can find
the app by going to

https://appsto.re/us/F8jO2.i

or by simply searching for NAGDU in the Apple app store.

Re: Deleting Virtual Machines in VmWare Fusion

2014-09-17 Thread Phil Halton
I could be wrong, but since vm is just a file, You should just be able to
delete it as you would any other file. However, since it is so large you might
have trouble with it going into the trash. Then again Mac OSx might ask you if
you want to just get rid of it rather than try to store it in the trash, since
it is so big. As long as you don't need the authorization key, you can just
delete the VM file. Again, I mostly guessing here but that's what I think would
happen.
