Online Banking While Using the iPhone
Hi, Folks. I want to be able to use my iPhone when calling my bank and doing transactions via the phone's keypad. Unfortunately, as it take a little while to find the proper keys, I've gotten timed out of the automated phone banking system. Is there a overlay I can place on the phone while using the automated service so I don't get timed out? Thanks in advance. The good morning everyone! For those of you who may not be aware you can go to speed dots.com and purchase a layover for your iPhone which may assist you in doing over the phone banking. Additionally, they provide layovers with brille markings for your iPad as well. Re: iworks fee bundle
As far as I am aware the iWorks suite started to be bundled with the OS from Mavericks onwards so what is relevant is is the OS rather than the machine. KNFB Reader Does it work on the iPad?
The IPad I have is about 2 years old and came with IOS6 installed. I have since upgraded it to IOS7 and will upgrade to 8 shortly so it runs the right versions of IOS for the KNFB Reader but IPads weren't mentioned at all in their list of supported devices. The app is discussed at the following URL: http://www.knfbreader.com/ Thanks. Re: KNFB Reader Does it work on the iPad?
Hello, I think to be fair it would install on an iPad, as it is running apples operating system. I don't know that what results we'd get using an iPad, but by all means try it? I think it's primarily designed for those using an iPhone. It's more portable. Let me know how you get on. Sent from my iPhone On 24 Sep 2014, at 17:57, Martin G. Re: KNFB Reader Does it work on the iPad?
I certainly will. Assuming the app will install and run on the IPad, there are logistical issues. The rear-facing camera is in one corner of the bottom. It will need to be suspended over the middle of the reading area plus one will need a light source to aluminate it. I like to build things so this would be a good project. Modern LED lights are now available for the automotive industry so maybe I could find some white ones that would mount on a pannel. LED lights are relatively cool and don't require anywhere near as much current as do conventional incandescent lamps. They would also probably be easier to keep out of the direct view of the camera. Re: KNFB Reader Does it work on the iPad?
Hello Martin, Here is a brief summary of my experience attempting to install and use the KNFB Reader app on my iPad. YMMV, and I am by no means recommending that anyone attempt to install and run this app on an unsupported device. Having already purchased, installed fallen in love with the KNFB Reader app on my iPhone 5S running IOS 7.1.2, I decided to ignore the stated system requirements and install it on my WiFi iPad Mini retina running IOS 8. The app showed up as installable (already paid for) in the App Store on the iPad, and I had no issues with the installation process on the iPad. The first thing I noticed after installation is that there is a pronounced lag when navigating the app’s interface on my iPad. There is a delay of several seconds when swiping or touching from item to item. For testing purposes, I ignored this lag and took several pictures of a computer screen and a printed text document, both of which were OCR’d and read aloud quickly. I attempted to toggle on “tilt guidance” but it remained off, which led me to wonder if perhaps there is no vibration built into the iPad. I’m not sure. I also tried the “field of view report” a half-dozen times but managed to receive spoken feedback with the edge and clockface report just once. I did not attempt to dig further into any of the settings or options, nor did I attempt any sort of troubleshooting. That was the extent of my testing. I am very happy with the performance of this app on my iPhone, and I imagine the Devs have some good technical reasons for leaving the current crop of iPads out of the supported device list. Re: KNFB Reader Does it work on the iPad?
Hi Bryan and All, I could not find the option to download KNFB on to my iPad Mini first Generation. However, I did install to my iPod Touch 5th Generation and can report exactly what you found below to the letter!!! The lag was so dreadful I uninstalled and reinstalled it and it is now doable. There is no vibration on the iPad or the iPad Mini or the iPod Touch so that is why you cannot get it!!! I can just find the 'take picture' button and double tap and then the OCR is fine and the reading is accurate. Like yourself the app works great on my iPhone 5s and 5c. Excellent app, very pleased indeed with it. - Original Message - From: Bryan Jones openses...@me.com To: OS X iOS Accessibility mac-access@mac-access.net Sent: Thursday, September 25, 2014 1:30 AM Subject: Re: KNFB Reader Does it work on the iPad? Re: iphone question.
Well, I finally got the notification from apple, telling me I could upgrade to version 8 if I wanted, so assuming your 4S has the capability also, you should be able to do so as well. I don't know if there's processor differences that would prevent the upgrade between the 8gb version you'd get and the 16gb version I have. I doubt it, but sometimes such things do happen. I can only buy a 4S 8 gig brand new from Telstra so I was worried people saying the up dates can take up room so I hope it would be big enough. My understanding now though, is that those are fixed. I've been told that the 4S can handle ios version 8, but I've not confirmed this yet, so take with a grain of salt. I have the 16GB version, and I've had very little trouble with it. The biggest issue I have at the moment, is that sometimes (happens more when the battery is low) when I double tap on something to activate it, the phone will instead move to the next item on the screen, instead of activating my chosen option. I then have to swipe left, and try the double tap again. Otherwise, things work fairly well for me, so interpret as desired. hth.
