Re: mud client

2013-07-13 Thread Mike Maslo
Tin tin is good but is there a way to make one line read completely when a
new line comes across the screen? Last time I tried it voice over started
reading text and as soon as new text came voice over started reading new
text before reading the previous line. Is there a way to fix this problem?

There are problems still.

You are right that it moves you or keeps you at the top of the screen. I have
found no way around it.

It works a lot better in mountain lion though.

The trigger creation is needed more work. I do nut like it very well. It does
not really support multiple wild cards plus I can't see how to create aliases.
I may not have tried it much. I will contact him with my findings

It works a lot better in mountain lion though.

The trigger creation is needed more work. I do nut like it very well. It
does not really support multiple wild cards plus I can't see how to create

Hi everyone I thank you all for the help.

I tried I bank and did not understand on how to move from one field to the next

I will try checkbook pro though I do not think they connect with your bank. To
reconcile your bang accounts. I will check it out nonetheless.

I also am trying a program called sea finance which seems to work extremely
well.

I will give both a try and let everyone know my thoughts if anyone would be
interested.

I know that my provider offers it because my iPhone is set up for it but
when I go into mail after deleting that old account it keeps setting it back
 up as a pop account.

Please can someone tell me how to get it from a pop account to a imap
 account?

Your help would be sincerely appreciated.

capacity. I have a combination of fast 256 gb solid state drive for
operating system and programs plus 2 TB second drive for data. I know of no
MPB or MBA which can approach this capacity.
 3. Easily accessible superdrive - I think it is nonsense to assume nobody

 4. Size of Screen - Although this does not apply to me my sighted brother

font size within OS elements on MBA and MBP. He can only just cope with 27

 5. The sound output is far louder from an IMac and is feasible to use as an
entertainment source in say a large living room.

My main query is how would you create the Lion installation as you do not
get an install disc with Lion?

By the way I tried using Eyepal with windows software under Fusion windows

and it did not work - the camera just flashed on and off repeatedly.
It seems then that this strategy will need testing out to see if it is
feasible to run Eyepal on a Lion Virtual Machine.

I think it is country productive to cry about a price.
If you think a application is to expensive don't buy it. Why keep crying over
something you can't do a thing about it. I thought this list was for
constructive criticism and not. A arena to complain about a price of a
application. As Gordon states earlier some like it and others don't. What is
the purpose of complaining?

apps that had a thirty day free trial attached. I do not recall the exact

 Hi

Apple does not permit developers to put trial ware programs into the App
store. As for the price being boosted because it's for the visually
impaired, I'm sorry, I don't agree with that at all. Yes, I grant you that
it does happen on the Windows side of things. But just take a look at what
you're getting with your iOS device for free. Voiceover itself took a great
deal of development and resources. Apple opted to make that free for all of
us. The developers of this application do have to cover their costs, and as
I said earlier whether or not you're prepared to pay the price is entirely a
 personal decision.

Don't get me wrong, I think the concept is a really cool one and a great idea
for an app, I just think that a lot more people would be willing to give it a
try if it only cost a few dollars, or if they offered a 30 day trial. I can

 Hello everybody

Forgive the impersonal response; but we've had so many of them that I wasn't
able to find the time to reply individually.

But we would like you to know that we are very grateful for your taking the
time to respond to our request. This is making life much easier for us and I
 will explain why.

The server we are currently using is running on borrowed time. It's flakey,
and that's an under-statement. Gordon, our technical guru, is managing to
keep the server up and running at the moment although with increasing
difficulty owing to the Panic log entries which it is generating. When we
try to use the servers admin tools to gain information regarding who is a
member of which list, we have a problem. The admin tools are telling us, in
effect, that Mac Access and all of our other lists don't exist. Therefore, we
are not able to gain access to the membership lists by any means other than
 your emails.

For that reason, I thank you all for your response. Be assured that we will
do our utmost to maintain the current server until the new one goes live. We
are under a little pressure to get this done quickly, as we are due to leave
for a fortnight's holiday, (vacation, as our American friends would call it),
in the middle of June. Gordon isn't able to work the long hours he used too,
owing to his recent illness and its after-effects.

Anyway, if you're one of those who hasn't yet responded, we would urge you to
please let us know if you wish to remain a group member. Just reply to this
 post if you wish.

Once again, many thanks, and my apologies that this message is way off topic.
That doesn't mean we've relaxed the rules; but we had to let you know
 somehow. ;-)

 Subject: Accessible Mud Client found

 Hi All,
This may be of interest to some of you who are gamers, and have been wanting
an accessible mud client for the Mac. I stumbled
on one purely by accident yesterday whilst searching the Mac App Store, not
really expecting to find any. The program is
 called Mudder.
It has full VoiceOver accessibility, and can be set to speak all incoming
text automatically using the system voice, and
unlike some other clients I've tried it actually does this sensibly without
interrupting itself. It currently costs $4.99.
THere are some quirks with this early version, such as lack of support for a
command history, and somewhat verbose labeling
with VoiceOVer, but compared to the other options we have available this is
leaps and bounds ahead. THe developer should be
commended for being interested in supporting VO. I just thought I should
pass this along, as I know this is a popular pastime
among blind gamers who might be on this list.
 Yours,
 Zack.

Have you tried triggers or can you creating macros?

The answer seems to be very well. I set up hotspots in the command input

vo-1 to go to the input or vo-2 to go to the output. THese can also be saved
for the Mudder application specifically by using VO activities.

Keyboard shortcuts would be a handy way to handle the problem of

need to test and see how it works in practice. I'd suggest contacting the

I can get it relatively cheap. Getting eight gigs would be nice because the
Mac could then use four gigs and Fusion could use four. That might be rather

What happens with fusion is that Windows becomes just another program on
 your Mac .
So yes you can have Jaws and Kurzweil running within Fusion and then switch
relatively instantly back to the Mac by just moving away from the Fusion
Window. You can for example scan a document with Kurzweil save it, and then
switch to the Mac to read it with, for example, Text Edit.
Copying and pasting will also work.
So you could scan with Kurzweil. Press control A to select all the scanned
text, then control C to copy it. Now press control command and return to
shift focus back to the Mac.
Now you can open say Text Edit on the Mac and pressing command V will paste
all the text you have copied from Kurzweil into Text Edit.
The opposite is also true. I find that Nothing on Windows is as good as the
Mac at reading PDF files. so you could read a PDF file on the Mac and then
copy text from it into Microsoft Word running under Fusion .
For me it really is a case of having the best of both worlds. In reality,
for me, there are still some things that it is easier or cheaper to do
under Windows where free software has a greater base.
You can even put Windows programs on the Dock in the Mac. So you could have
Kurzweil on your dock. Pressing return on Kurzweil will start Kurzweil in
 Windows .
You can associate files on the Mac with windows programs if that is what you
want. I do not do this but you could, for example, associate .doc files
with the windows version of Word. So pressing command O to open the document
in Mac finder will start Microsoft Word under fusion with the file already
 loaded.

The aim of fusion is to make Windows instantly integrated into the Mac and
does a pretty good job of this. There are some steps with sharing hardware
which is not too difficult to follow .
There are a couple of caveats . Make sure you have security software, anti
virus firewall etc running under windows. Although the Mac is a much more
stable and safe environment the Fusion version of Windows is just as
vulnerable to viruses as normal windows. You can set up fusion not to share
files with the Mac if you are really worried about thisbut I do not go
that far. I d, for convenience have all my document folders available on
 both Mac and fusion.

Because of this you may want to back up your windows once you have
everything set up as you want it. . Doing this on the Mac is ridiculously
easy. You just copy the virtual Machine file with command c in finder and
paste it somewhere as a Backup, say on an external drive. You can also have
time Machine on the Mac do this automatically for you but I prefer to keep
at least one known stable version of Windows backed up separately from time
machine. If you do get a virus in windows then just delete the infected
virtual machine file on the Mac using command delete. Now simply copy back
your backed up version into the Virtual Machine folder to return to normal
within a couple of minutes of the file copying across. Goodbye to all the
 Windows virus hassles.

Also if you intend to use Fusion a lot I recommend you get as much physical
Ram as you can for your Mac. Do not use apple for this as third party
 providers are much much cheaper.

there's not a jaws for mac but it would be great if somehow I could

My answers to your questions would be

1, what were some of the most important changes from using jaws to using
voice over that you who made that switch had to get used to?

My answer is take your time. VO is different to Jaws, some things are
better, some things are more difficult such as selecting text on web pages.
There are work around for most problems.

2, what are the biggest things I should know about switching?
Try to learn about interaction as a key concept. Setting the tab key to
automatically interact will make this concept more intuitive.
The way the Mac cursors with text is different to the way that Windows
screenreaders read. You can set Mac to work like a windows screen reader but
I would not recommend it as it creates other problems with cursor
navigation. . Try to learn how the Mac does things. Ask again on this this
list if you need help with this.

3, what are the best web tutorials for learning voice over?
I think the Vision Australia podcasts are the best introduction to using
the Mac as they are short, to the point and clear.
4, if any of you used Kurzweil1000 for Windows, what did you do for a mac?
Are there any other OCR programs that work with voice over and are as good
 as Kurzweil?
I have good experience with EyePal for Mac but this is a very expensive
 option.
Other people report good experience with Docuscan with HoverCam with is
slightly is less expensive but still pricey.
At the budget end some people report success with Abbey Finereader Express.

5, I have office for mac, how vo accessible is this and what can I do to
 make it more accessible?
Not accessible at all and nothing you can currently do about it.
Also unfortunately Open Office is no longer accessible under Lion.
What you do depends on how extensive Office functions you need.
I Works applications from Apple are a cheap option but are significantly
different from Windows applications and will be a significant learning
curve. I have found limited VO tutorials etc for VO support for these
 applications.
Nisus Writer Pro is a good Word processor for the Mac but VO support for
reading Tables is pretty non existent in Nisus and other word Processors.
There are various clunky work around including copying the tables as text
into text edit but if you need to read significant amonamounts of Tables you
will probably want to have Jaws in a virtual Machine handy.
If you just have basic word processing needs then Text Edit, which comes
free with the Mac is pretty powerful, much more powerful than WordPad for
example. Also bean is a good free word-process.

6, this is a mac question in general, what programs did y'all use to run
windows programs on your mac, did you all use boot camp or something else
 and what's the cheapesst/easiest?

I am a fan of VM fusion, it is fast, completely accessible, and you can even
install windows without sighted help. help I have a boot camp partition but
never use it, I only use fusion as Windows is just a keystroke and a few
seconds away on the Mac. With fusion you can have the best of both worlds.

Although I have taken time to answer these questions it is probably better
to ask one question at a time on the list. You are more likely to then get
 answers.

Just hold down the keys 6 and 4 at boot up and it will remain in that state
until you reboot. I do this for my video editing when I do it and my audio
editing when I can get round to it.

 Take care.

I am afraid that, even now, I have to go back to Windows and Jaws for

problems with passwords. The biggest feature request I would have for
Voiceover would be to provide consistent click feedback when entering text
into secure edit boxes I have tried to access Nat West a few times using the
Mac and Safari and have given up each time as the complete lack of feedback
when entering password information is too confusing and unnerving. oxes.
Voiceover and Safari hardly ever achieve proper feedback on secure edit
fields. . So in the last 2 days I tried to access GMail and the Sainsburys
site. On theGMail login I received only sporadic click feedback confusing
me as to whether key presses had been registered aor not. On the sainsbury
site I received no feedback at all. In fact one of the few places I know
where I have received anything like consistent click feedback in a password
 field is the App Store.
  E
ven here the first key press is silent . presumably because the first letter
of my password is capitalised. This is one of my biggest disappointments
 with the Mac.
As you know password automaters will not work with the Nat West site as you
need to enter randomly selected characters from password and pin, as you do
with payment verification systems on shopping sites. Ebay is usable as having
a paypal account and simple login makes it far easier.
I am not asking for any security breaches, just for voiceover to do its job
of providing a click every time you type in an edit field. The equivalent of
the sighted user seeing a star. We are being badly let down here. Both NVDA
and Jaws have no problem with providing feedback in these same edit boxes so
I am mystified as to why this is a problem for Voiceover.
This and the apparent inability of mac wordprocessin software to handle a
table in a word documents are big drawbacks. As an academic I am constantly
confronted with documents with tables in. Lots of good things about the Mac
but these are big problems of everyday usage which need to be sorted urgently.

Not sure if off topic

2011-09-25 Thread mike maslo
Hi everyone:

I have finally got all of my vm fusions problems and concerns resolved but
now I have a new issue or question.

Since I am using a different operating system and I need the keys to do
other stuff such as the cap locks no alt key no menu key etc on this macbook
keyboard or the insert key.

How do I use the macbook keyboard with the new operating system?

It does to act the same way as a regular windows keyboard.

Please advise if this is off topic and if so I do sincerely apologize. If so
also if anyone can direct me to for help.

Thanks so much in advance.

VM fusion

2011-09-23 Thread mike maslo
Hi everyone I have seen suggestions for when I use vm firmware on how it
should be configured.

I understand that the windows is off topic but my question is if I have 4 gb
of memory, what should or how should I set the memory?

I saw someone say guest should be 1 gb. When you say guest is that mac or
when I configure and it asks me on vm fusion that I should allocate 1 gb?

Just vo right past the table after highlighting the request, go to except
button and hit it. It should be there. There's also a block button as well.

Take care.

Hi Lynne and others,

Copy and paste is working for me now in VM Fusion 3. I was getting
my fingers tangled and using windows commands on my Mac! So much to keep
track of and I have muscle memory after more then 25 years of PC work!

But, I can now use the copy command on either OS move to the other OS and
use the paste command. this is very useful.

I bet it works in VM 4. But, I have not been able to get VM 4 to work well
for me yet.

Yes. The clipboard is interchangeable natively.

Having two different programs run at the same time

2011-09-21 Thread mike maslo
Hi list:

I don't know if this is possible but I was wondering if I want to use two
different programs such as text edit and pages if that is possible.

I have work to do and need both programs running and I would have to switch
between both of them on a regular basis.

I need to know if this is possible and if so how is this done?

I tried to minimize but it seems like I can't get to anything else but the
primary window.

Any help would be appreciated.

RE: Trouble setting up Dropbox

2011-09-21 Thread mike maslo
Hi, I have a different problem with drop box.

I installed it and it launches. However, when I try to get into the file I
can't access the directory.

It says drop box when I am on my desktop but it says drop box has no active
windows. When I get that message I can't get into applications or anything
else unless I go to my dock and launch a program.

Anyone have any ideas of what I am doing wrong?

In fact, the short cuts are Right Option key plus T and Right Option key

Oh yes, can someone tell me how I would know if I have a track pad?
You have a trackpad since you have a MacBook Pro. All Mac laptops have a
trackpad which replaces the mouse. You also have a Trackpad Commander which
will allow you to operate your MacBook Pro using gestures. The trackpad is
that rectangle below the space bar, and pressing it will perform a mouse
 click.
